I am a Lilge who lives in Calgary, Alberta which is approximately 2 1/2 hours south of Bruderheim. My father was born and raised in Bruderheim. His father was Adolph Lilge who I believe was a nephew of Andreas Lilge. My father has been deceased for about 15 years however my Mother still has some of the original letters that were written when they immigrated to Canada - of course they are all in German. A book was written in 1982 - "The Founding of the Moravian Church in Western Canada and The Andreas Lilge Story by Kurt H. Vitt. It was published by: Canadian Moravian Historical Society, Edmonton Chapter, 2304 - 38 Street, Edmonton, Alberta, T6L 4K9; (403) 463-7427. The book is 150 pages with lots of pictures and quite a fascinating story. According to the book Andreas Lilge died institutionalized in a "poor-house" in the United States and that he had succumbed to the effects of Bright's disease a kidney malfunction - approx 1931 however there are some that believe he died as early as 1917. In coming across Canada they had a great deal of assistance from the Mennonites in Manitoba. It is also my understanding that the historical society in Edmonton has a great deal of information.
