COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa — Donald Eugene Lihs, 71, Columbus Junction, died Sunday, April 11, 2010, at his home in Columbus Junction.
Graveside Service will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 15, 2010, at the Fulton Cemetery south of Cairo, Iowa. The Rev. Darryl Erickson of Grandview Community Bible Church will officiate. Casket bearers will be Ben Chaney, Steve Chaney, Rich Hitchcock, Sam Brown, Jackie Lihs, Chad Lihs and Chris Lihs.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at the Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction.
Mr. Lihs was born on October 11, 1938, in Cairo, the son of Jack and Mary Sellers Lihs.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1956-60.
He married Erma Buster on April 26, 1962, in Kahoka, Missouri. They later divorced.
He worked 30 years for the Natural Gas Pipeline, retiring in 1995.
He was a member of the Cedar Crest Country Club for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, playing billiards and watching sports.
He was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Green Bay Packers, but he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He will be dearly missed by his daughters, Audie Hitchcock and husband, Richard, of Letts and Teri Chaney and husband, Steve, of Wapello; seven grandchildren, Alex and Olivia Hitchcock, Ben, Jeri, Hannah, Lizzy and Joel Chaney; a brother, Jackie Lihs and wife, Karen, of Winfield; sisters, Peggy Lowary and husband, Keith, of Stratford, and Baja Brown and her husband, Sam, of Princeton; brothers-in-law, Dean Samuels and Billy Marshall, both of Wapello; and a sister-in-law, June Lihs of Belleville, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents; twin daughters; brother, Dean Lihs; sisters, Shirley Leasch and husband, Dick, Wanda Marshall and Pat Samuels.
