YOUNGSTOWN – A funeral service celebrating the life of Ms. Virgerrenia “Virgie” Turner who departed this life June 17, 2011, will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Ms. Turner was born Jan. 13, 1949, in Youngstown, Ohio a daughter of Robert and Mattie Pearl Erkard Lighfoot Sr.

She was a 1967 graduate of The Rayen School and continued her education at Choffin School of Nursing. She was formerly employed as a nurse for over 41 years with St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Virgie was a devoted member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church, where she served on the Nurse’s Guild, cooked for the after school program and was an active member of the Progressive Sunday School class.

A lady of fashion, she enjoyed traveling, shopping, collecting unique dolls and loved the beaches. Her beautiful and caring personality will be misses by those who knew and loved her.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving mother and her grandson, John E. Turner III, both of Youngstown; two aunts, Sarah and her husband, Fred Addison of Dayton, Ohio; Mary Lightfoot of Youngstown; a niece, Shirlene and her husband, Hank Wilson of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a nephew, Colin and his wife, Tupu Murphy of El Paso, Texas; a brother-in-law, Ernie and his wife, Lisa Shipley of Boardman, Ohio; her best friend, Carla Lockett of Youngstown; a host of Erkard and Lightfoot cousins; and other relatives and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her father; a sister, Shirlene Shipley; a brother, Robert Lightfoot Jr.; and her son, John E. Turner II.

Friends may call Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. at Washington Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends Saturday, one hour prior to services at the church.

Interment will be at Belmont Park Cemetery.
