I'm replying quite late to this post, but when I saw Lowndes County I had to reply.
My 4 great grandfather, William Dogett Light, was born July 22, 1819 in Halifax, North Carolina and settled in Hayneville, Lowndes County, Alabama. He died March 24, 1888.
His son William Thomas Mason Light, also born in North Carolina, was born August 15, 1844 and died in Elmore County, Alabama January 23, 1892. He was married to Harriet Columbus Gore (1847-1933).
William T.M Light's son, also called William Dogett Light was born 1874 in Montgomery, Alabama. He also died there in May 16, 1958. He was married to a Carrie L(?).
My great-grandfather James Light was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas on September 4, 1913, but came back to Alabama where my grandmother, Marjorie Light was born. I believe he was born in Arkansas because his father was possibly in the military. He was married to Minnie Reid.
I typed all that out to say Elmore and Montgomery counties where my family presided are in close proximity with Lowndes. I don't know if it's possible, but I wouldn't rule it out either if I and your husband come from the same Light branch.
Is he possibly descended from Light's in North Carolina? If so do you have information on a Jeremiah Light died 1822 in Halifax County? Would you be willing to share your information with me?
I'm looking for any possible links to find out more about my Light roots and the Lowndes part gives me strong suspicions.
