MUSCATINE, Iowa - Helen E. Liebbe, 89, of Muscatine, died Monday April 2, 2001, at Sterling House in Muscatine.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul Ostrem will officiate. Emily Cole will be organist and Austin Cole will be vocalist. Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Matthew Ritter, Douglas Ritter, William Dickinson Sr., William Dickinson Jr., Bruce Dickinson, Ron Sturms, Jim Noble and Mike Boynton.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Cripple Children's Hospital and may be left at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home or sent to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, Dept E, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, Tenn. 38101.

Mrs. Liebbe was born July 9, 1911, in Muscatine, the daughter of Ernest W. and Carrie Watts Berg. She married Norbert Liebbe April 6, 1935, in Muscatine.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Lady Elks and had been employed at several companies in the Muscatine area in the accounting department.

She and her husband, Norbert, were life residents of Muscatine residing for many years on Orchard Ave.

Survivors include grandchildren, Matthew Ritter and his wife, Megan, of Muscatine, and Douglas Ritter of Muscatine; and also several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1995; one daughter, Patricia Liebbe-Ritter in 1993; one sister and one brother.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- Florence J. Liebbe, 100, of 1209 21st Ave. in Rock Island, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at the Silver Cross Nursing Center in Rock Island.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

There is no visitation. Wheelan Funeral Home in Rock Island is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Rock Island Y.W.C.A., the scholarship program of Cottey College of the PEO Sisterhood, Zion Lutheran Church in Muscatine, the Rock Island/Milan Education Foundation or to a favorite charity.

Miss Liebbe was born on Dec. 26, 1900, in Muscatine, the daughter of Henry John and Anna Elizabeth Werner Liebbe.

She graduated from Muscatine High School and earned bachelor of arts and master of arts degrees from the University of Iowa. She did further graduate study at Columbia University, New York, the University of Chicago and the University of Denver.

She was a history teacher at Rock Island Senior High School for 12 years, and in 1940 was appointed Dean of Girls and served in that capacity for 28 years. Among her interests were establishing the school's membership in the National Honor Society and the American Field Services foreign student exchange program. After retiring, she became a counselor for four years at the Villa de Chantal School for Girls in Rock Island.

She was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha; was elected to Phi Beta Kappa at the University of Iowa; Board of Directors of the Rock Island Y.W.C.A.; the Rock Island City Union of King's Daughters and Sons; the Rock Island Historical Society; life member of the Illinois Branch of King's Daughters and the Illinois Parent and Teacher Association; Chapter LC of the PEO Sisterhood; Helpers 'Circle of King's' Daughters; honorary member of the Florence J. Liebbe Circle of King's Daughters; and life member of Zion Lutheran Church in Muscatine.

Survivors include a niece, Jo Ann Dickinson of Santa Ana, Calif.; a nephew, John Nelson Torrey of Nevada, Calif.; and five grandnephews, William S. Dickinson Jr., Bruce Dickinson, Matthew Ritter, Douglas Ritter and Bryan Torrey.

DAVENPORT, Iowa - William E. Liebbe, 77, Davenport, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, at the Genesis Medical Center West in Davenport.

Visitations will be 1 p.m. Sunday at the Community of Joy United Methodist Church, Bettendorf. Burial will be at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery in Muscatine. Memorials may be directed to Community of Joy United Methodist Church or Camp Courageous, 12007 190th St., P.O. Box 418 Monticello, Iowa.

He was born Aug. 30, 1924, in Muscatine to Ernest and Carrie (Griesenbrach) Liebbe. He married Dee Jones Dec. 30, 1945, in Muscatine.

He enjoyed music, woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren. He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II and was a member of the Community of Joy United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Dee Liebbe of Davenport, a daughter, Sue Dee and Melvin Freeman, DeKalb, Ill.; two sons, Michael Liebbe and Vicki Miller-Liebbe of Davenport, Bill and Penny Liebbe of LeClaire; eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild; brothers, Bob Liebbe of Melissa, Texas, Jacob Liebbe and wife Doris of West Des Moines and 'Hey You', his dog.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa - Jacob 'Jake' A. Liebbe, 86, died of heart failure Monday, April 10, 2006, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.

After the services, a time of fellowship was held. Burial, with military rites, was at Resthaven Cemetery, West Des Moines.

Memorials may be made to The Heart Connection Children's Cancer Program, 1221 Center St., Suite 12, Des Moines, IA 50309-1014.

Mr. Liebbe was born in Muscatine and had lived in West Des Moines since 1956.

He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of West Des Moines United Methodist Church and Gnemeth Masonic Lodge No. 577.

He was a supervisor of training with Northwestern Bell until his retirement in 1982. After retirement, he enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family.

He had a canine companion, Kelly.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Doris; two sons, Steve of West Des Moines and Todd and wife Anna of Larkspur, Colo.; two daughters, Debra Reed and husband Gary of West Des Moines and Cyndy Stadtlander and husband Mark of Winterset; 10 grandchildren, Angela, Jacob, Stephanie, Karissa, Danika, Styles, Kyra, Quinn, Delaney and Sean; a brother, Bob Liebbe of Dallas, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Carrie Liebbe; a brother, Bill; and a granddaughter, Libbie Stadtlander.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Marjorie Walker-Liebbe, 95, of Davenport, died Monday, February 16, 2009, at Davenport Lutheran Home.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2009, at the Faith Lutheran Church, Eldridge. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, at the Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge. Memorials may be made to the church.

Marjorie was born on January 16, 1914, in Louisa County, the daughter of Harry and Marie Seiler Walker. She married Harold Norton Liebbe on April 1, 1934, in Davenport. He preceded her in death on April 6, 1982.

She had been employed as a dental assistant for more than 40 years with Dr. David Carstenson in Davenport, retiring at the age of 72.

She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Eldridge. She enjoyed sewing, carving and spending time with her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughter and son-in-law, Chris and Ray Yoke of Park View; her grandchildren, Angela Whitcomb and husband, David of Eldridge, Deb Yoke of Turlock, Calif., Caroline Smith and husband, Sohn of Dixon, and Eric Yoke of Eldridge; her great-grandchildren, Brian Dichiser, Zach Swarts, Chris Swarts, Quentin Smith, Wyatt Smith, Solomon Yoke, Hope Yoke and Katelyn Whitcomb; a sister, Dorothy Green of Davenport.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her sisters, Lucille Gipple, Irene Steigers, Isabel Taylor and Charlotte Peters; and her brothers, Arthur, Jake, John and Robert Walker.
