Hello,

There is a chance, we, may, have a connection.

My great grandmother was Emily Liddell, born 1901 in Stockton to Thomas Liddell and Mary Elizabeth Ann Welsh/Welch. They moved to the Thornaby area between 1901-1911.
Thomas died in, I believe. 1929 and Mary vanishes.

Do you happen to know the names of your Marys' parents? I have seen Mary Liddell born in 1911 with the rights mothers maiden name, but I'm not sure if she is related or not.

I jnow this is an old post, but I hope to hear from you soon,

Amanda

Hi, I am currently researching the family of William & Margaret Liddell. Their daughter Mary is my great-grandmother. She married George Bernard Gilmore and had a family of twelve: William, David, George, Jane, Mary, Vera (my grandmother), Elsie, Frederick, Katherine, Lilian, James & Grace. James has inherited Donaldson as part of his name - James Stewart Donaldson Gilmore. Capt.James, I gather is William's brother. On George & Mary's marriage certificate, William's rank is listed as 'Master Mariner'. Any info on this side of the family would be much appreciated, thanks.
Paddy
my email address: robbiesplace@xtra.co.nz

Hi Aaron

James Donaldson Liddell died at home on the 3rd of February 1878 of cholera (after illness of only 38 hours duration), aged 70. He was buried at Queenscliffe Cemetery with his first wife Mary (aka Abby).

I have a photo of the headstone, if you are interested.

The death certificate states how long James was in the Australian colonies: New South Wales, 9 years; Tasmania, 5 years; New Zealand, 11 years; Victoria, 27 years. It also gives the names of all his children and their ages at the time of his death. By his first marriage:¬ William, 48; James, 45; Charles Henty, 42; John, 39; Margaret, 36; Mary, 33; Janet, 30. By his second marriage: Frederick James, 17; Justice James, 15; Lucie Anna, 12 and a half; Annie Emily, 10; Earnest Duglass, 8; Hogarth Greville, 2. (Lucie died aged 26 in 1893 and was buried with her father.)

Happy to share more, I have quite a lot of info on the Liddells.

I've been searching for more information on John Brown Liddell. My Grandmother once told me he was born on a ship while his family was on their voyage to the United States. He was my grandmother's grandfather, and he would have been born around 1860. His daughter Maurgerite was my grandma's mother, and they lived in Minnesota until they emigrated to Ontario, Canada.

Does anyone know about this?

Scott

My grandfather was always telling me that Eric Liddell was my great great uncle. Whether or not that is true I would love to know! If this were true it would mean that Eric Liddell would be my great grandfather's (Robert Liddell) brother. My great grandfather was married to Agnus Liddell who had 2 children whose names were also Agnus and Robert Liddell. My grandfather (Robert Liddell) was from Glasgow, Scotland. To be honest, I don't have much more information than that as my grandfather and his father were not close. My grandfather went on to marry Mary Liddell. If anyone has any more information about the Liddell family tree, I would love to see it!

Looking for relatives/ancestors of Hugh Liddell b.abt 1814 Paisley, Renfew, Scotland. I believe his parents were Andrew Liddell/Liddal and Agnes Barr of Renfrewshire. He married Mirren/Marion Kirkland Nov 1834 in Low Church, Paisley. They had 4 children. Marion died 1853. He then remarried, Helen (Ellen) Reid (nee Murdoch)and in 1855 emigrated to Tasmania, Australia.
I am a direct descendant in Australia but would like to know more about his parents and any siblings. 1841 census states he was a wood turner.

Re: LIDDELL families of Worcestershire, Worwickshire, and Staffordshire

I have Thomas Liddell (1806) Bromsgrove, m. Susannah ? (1806) Kings Norton. They moved to Studley abt 1841. Had a son Thomas Liddell (1839). He married Hannah J. Russell (1845) Stourbridge. She had a sister named Sarah Russell (1850) also Stourbridge. Cannot find a marriage for her. Thomas (1839) & Hannah (1845), known to family as Anna, lived in Kingswinford. Thomas was a machine clerk and eventually a glass cutter. They had 6 children: Emily(1865), Henry(1867), Annie(1870), Florence Mae(1873), Ada(1876), and William(1878). Florence Mae is my Grt Grandmother. They immigrated to US in 1884. Am looking for family related to Thomas(1806) & Susannah(1806). Are they related to the many Liddell's of Bromsgrove? Who are their parents? Do they have siblings? Do you know this line? Thank you.

LIDDELL families of Worcestershire, Worwickshire, and Staffordshire

I am resarching the LIDDELL family of Bromegrove, Stourbridge, Chaddesly Corbett, Worcestershire. And also of Kingswinford and Pensnett, Staffordshire. And Studley, Worwickshire. These area's are all very close together, and it seems my family moved from one to another of these towns until settling in Kingswinford. There are 12 families of 47 people of LIDDELL's on the 1841 England Census for Bromesgrove. I can't figure out what the relationship is between these poeple, they are probabley related. Does anyone have any information about these people?

I am searching for any information concerning Eva Winifred Liddell, who was born in October 1888 in Oxford.

She emigrated to Canada sometime around 1910-1912. In October 1913, she married Edward James Turner in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Any information about her parents, siblings, etc. would be appreciated. I also can't help but wonder if she was related to Alice P. Liddell, the young friend of "Lewis Carroll"?

Hi Brent
I had a quick look at your query and I dont think there is an immediate connection, but you never know. My ancester was Joshua Liddell son of James Liddle and Elizabeth. Joshua was born about 1828 in Lambton Durham, he married Isabella Taylor and they lived in Sherborn Hill. They were a family of coal miners in Durham. In 1858 they came to Australia with their children. Joshua had several brothers and sisters, James, Margaret, Joshua x2, John, Edward, Joseph and Anthony (probably others) I dont know what happened to them. I searched my tree for Mary Ann and only found one who died in Australia in 1898. Sorry I cant help but I do know there is a family of Liddell around Oxfordshire. Try googling Edith Liddell and Alice in Wonderland. She is the girl who the story is based on. I cant place her in my tree but you might be the lucky one

I don't know of anyone connected to the Liddell family with the surname "St. John." My guess is the Liddells took "St. John" from the Bible. Southerners often named their children from the Bible, and sometimes named their children such things as "Queen Elizabeth" or "Doctor."
