I have just finishing trying to replicate some Liddell family history on the Mormon site (
www.familysearch.org) that I did several years ago. Guess what? I couldn't. This is funny. The other time, I was able to drag up (not literally, of course) James Liddell/1712's two brothers and the death date of their (first name missing) Liddell father.
This time I can only drag up James Lidell/1712's father, the two generation's wives' names and a few "dates." Oh well, maybe, I did a printout the other time and will find it again.
For new, here's the best I can do.
James Liddell (Birth, or christening: 9 May 1712) in Airth, Sterling, Scotland. Mother: Janet Smith. Father: James Liddell. Married Esther Porter: "Before 1742" "About 1743" "About 1745" in New Castle County Deleware.
James' Father --
James Liddell (Birth: about 1682) in Airth, Sterling, Scotland. Married Janet (Jannet) Smith "About 1707".
So, that's about it. A general search on the Mormon site for Liddells in Scotland does not show any earlier than the 1630s or so, so I figure that that the limit, although there are deviant spellings and somebody might want to make a run at those, given that the river, itself, is alternately spelled Liddell, Liddle and Liddel, according to the map drawer.
I didn't have time to check a Scotland map for the nearness of Airth, Sterling to Dumfries. That could be another hook on these Liddells, you know.
