My last name is Liao and I also have been very interested in tracing back my ancestry. I have spoken to my father about his past and some with my grandpa so I only have their stories to learn from. My father was born in Taiwan in Hsinchu in 1954. My grandfather, who is of Hakka descent, was also born there 1908. Hsinchu holds the largest population of Hakka in Taiwan. As I understand it, we go back at least 5 generations in Taiwan. I have read in history books that the majority of Hakka in Taiwan emigrated there from the Guangdong province, mostly during the 14th and 15th century. I wish to know if there was a Liao family during the Chinese dynasties in China that we can all trace back to!
