The oral history of our branch of the L'Hote family says that a French soldier left after the battle of Waterloo in 1815 and went to the French West Indies. He is presumed to have married there or in New Orleans and a son or grandson moved on to a small town in Ohio where Harry Edward L'Hote was born. His parents are unknown although he had two sisters, one Nell who married a Cadwalater(? and lived in Kansas City. Harry's mother remarried a man named Bittenger.
Looking for any clues on Harry Edward's parents or ancestry of any kind. Does he appear on anyone's family tree? There aren't too many L'Hote's around - we must be all related??? Please e-mail

I have a Harry E. L'Hote listed as my Gr-Grandmother's father. Her name was Grace Elise and she was born in 1889 in Detroit. I have Harry listed as pos. being from New Albany, IND.
It is possible that Harry's wife was HANNAH BARTON from Dover England.
I never get any hits when I search L'Hote so I'm hoping we have a connection somewhere!

Holly, Surely there is a connection although I have Grace as born in 1896. Her mother was Elsie Hannah Barton. Her siblings were John Jesse, (my grandfather,)Florence, Harry jr., Evelyn and Iva. They were all born in Detroit, I think. I know John J. lived there his whole life. Our Grace married Bill Loesch and had a son Billy and daughter June (?). Are we possibly still on the right track???

YES!

So of course I can fill in ALL the blanks as far as the Loesch's go for you. My mother is William's 3rd child Bette.

I stand corrected. We've just come up with my grandfather's (John Jesse L'Hote) death certificate and it lists his father, Harry E. L'Hote as being born in Albany, Indiana - not Ohio as we had thought. I'll send more info soon.
