I researching where exactly my last name comes from and where my family came from. There are many different versions of how we got to Pittsburgh, PA but I was wondering how many there are of us and where everyone is, etc, etc.

Hi Jason,
I have read your message. My surname is also Lhota. I come from the Czech Republic, Prague (Europe) and this name is common here. I think, it is a typical Czech name. Many villages in our country has the name Lhota. If you want, I can write you more information. Did you find any other people with our surname? Where do they come from?
Bye, bye.

Jason,

If your Lhota's were in Pittsburgh, chances are your family was from Pechova Lhota, which is in the South Bohemia region of Czechoslovakia (it was Bohemia when your ancestors lived there).

You will probably find their graves in the St. Wenceslaus section of the St. Joseph cemetery in Ross township.

You will probably find their records from the Diocese of Pittsburgh Archives, in the records of St. Wenceslaus RC church which is (was) near the 16th street bridge on the North Side.

John LHOTA was one of the founders of St. Wenceslaus in 1871.

Do the surnames BASTYR or OPATRNY figure into your relatives?

I am doing the Marie Krenjk and John (Novacek)Newacheck line coming to U.S. 1852 from Bohemia. Daughter Mary born 1852 on Atlanic Ocean married Albert Lhota July 28, 1874 in Pennsylvania. They had a son Joseph born Feb. 1889 in Allegheny, Pa. and Died May 27, 1931 in Cuyahoga County, Ohio.

Is this your line? The last name Novacek has been spelled many ways.
