Two days ago I had never heard of this surname!
How does anyone ever get to this board given how people
spell the name? My search began with finding the widow
Mary Mount of NJ had remarried and was living in NYC on
the 1880 census for Manhattan [T9-872, p 508B]. Her
husband was Ed. Ehomedien, aged 37, b NJ, and engineer
with NY parents. I could tell this was my Mary as her sons
Albas and Augustus Mount were listed as their children.
One daughter, M.E. Ehomedien, 7, b NY, completed the
family.
I will not bore you with how I got from Ehomedien to
L'Hommedieu with two days of sleuthing; now I very much
want to find Ed. and Mary in 1870 to see where her daughter
Catherine (my real interest) is living. I assume Ed. and Mary
met in NJ. The problem is that no census taker spells the
name correctly, and my 1870 index on line does not allow
wildcard searches, etc. I find no L'Hommedieus at all.
Is anyone familiar with Ed? Mary was living in Monmouth
Co. with her husband James Mount in 1860. Thank you.
