Surnames: L'Homme, D'Artois
The L'Homme families of Canada descend from three original immigrants from France. These three lines eventually used the following names: L'Homme, L'Homme Artois, L'Homme dit Artois, d'Artois, Dartois, Artois, Lampe, de L'Homme, Delhomme, Delhommer, and Desmoreau. There are also L'Homme individuals that immigrated directly from France to Louisiana and became Delhomme and Delhommer. See also the Delhommer Surname Board for more information on the Louisiana L'Homme lines.

I am a descendant of Jean Pierre L'Homme Artois, but have lots of information on all of the L'Homme and D'Artois lines in Quebec and will do my best to help anyone who descends from these individuals. If any of you have L'Homme information to add and would be willing to share, please let me know!

Happy hunting!

My Grandmother Bella Rose Alba D'Artois is the daughter of Napoleon D'Artois (Marieville PQ 1864-1936) and Albina Bessette (1868-1929). She had 7+ siblings.

I believe Napoleon is the son of Joseph L'Homme (20 Aug 1829 Marieville PQ) who has children with the names of D'Artois and L'Homme dit Artois.

THe dit names have really thrown me off and I am looking to connect this tree further back. I am using BMS2000.

Can you provide a valid connection?

Thank You

You are a fairly close relative of mine! I've been hoping to contact someone from your branch of the family, since Napoleon, Albina, and Bella are all buried in my home town! Please email me directly at mitrolka@charter.net and maybe we can speak (or meet if you live locally!). The D'Artois family immigrated to Canada (New France) as L'Homme, then added the dit Artois since they were from the Artois region of France. Later the L'Homme part was dropped and they used just D'Artois.
Here is the lineage for Napoleon:
* Alexandre L'Homme & Helene Deliercourt (also d'Hercourt, d'Herevust or Delcourt) (m. 12 Jan 1723 St Croix, Arras, Artois, Pas-De-Calais, France)
* Jean Pierre L'Homme Artois (b. 29 Jun 1729 St Croix, Arras, Artois, Pas-De-Calais, France). Married (18 Apr 1757 Ste. Famile, Boucherville, Chambly, PQ) to Marie Jeanne Robert Fontaine (her second marriage) (b. 14 Sep 1727 Chambly, d. 22 Jun 1803 St. Mathias). Jean Pierre was a soldier in the Regiment de Bearn, Compagnie D'Aubrespy.
* Antoine L'Homme dit Artois (b. 29 Sep 1761 St. Mathias). Married (8 Oct 1792 Longueuil, Chambly) to Marie Desanges Lajeunesse (b. ~1772)
*Louis Pierre L'Homme dit Artois (b. 31 Aug 1798 St. Mathias). Married (17 Nov 1817 St. Mathias) to Theotiste (also Sophie or Etier) Beique-Lafleur (b. 19 May 1800, d. ~1840).
* Joseph L'Homme dit Artois. Married (23 Oct 1849 St. Mathias) to Rosalie Viens (also Vient or Prese) (b ~1832, daughter of Toussaint Viens and Catherine Cheval St. Jacques). Joseph had a brother, Louis Pierre L'Homme dit Artois who is my ggg grandfather!
*Joseph Napoleon D'Artois (b. 1864, d. 31 Jan 1936). Married Albina Bessette (b. 1868, d. 3 Jan 1929, daughter of Raphael Bessette and Elmire). Buried in Notre Dame Cemetary, South Hadley, MA.
I might (not sure) have a picture of Napoleon. I inherited a photo labelled "Napoleon D'Artois" and have been wondering if this is the right Napoleon since he lived nearby. My grandmother, Clarinda D'Artois, and her sister, Nathalie D'Artois, both lived in South Hadley.
Hope this helps. I have lots more info on siblings, etc. that we can exchange!
