Hello-
I am looking for information on George Lhamon, born before the turn of the century in New York state. He was my maternal grandfather, but died when I was a baby. He married Hannah Asbjornsson (from Iceland) and they had 5 children, a boy also named George, my mother Verna and 3 other girls, Gladys, Beatrice and Violet.
About the only other thing I know about him is that he served in the Spanish-American War.
Would also like information on the name origin if anyone can help.
Thanks!

Seeking information on Eva Mae Lhamon Dinger

Eva Mae Lhamon was born in 1876 in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was the daughter of
William and Mary Hildebrand Lhamon. On her Brothers obit in 1948, she was listed as living in St. Louis, Missouri, with the last name of Dinger. She was listed in their directory in 1952 as:Mae Dinger widow of Elmer Dinger. They lived on Goodfellow Blvd.
I am seeking any information on her. If she remarried, moved to possibly California and may have had the last name of Kent, or Owens. Any information would be greatly appreciated Since I have been looking for her for 4 years now. Thank you so much for your time. Karen Lhamon

Dear Ardis:
Can you please give names that go further back than George Lhamon. The spelling is the same as mine but, I do not reconize a George Lhamon from New York. There are a lot of Lhamons over these United States. A Mr. Harvey LHamon put together a book of Lhamons and if you can give me more information I will see what I can find out for you. Hope to hear from you.
Almost forgot I slightly remember someone putting another book of Lhamons her name was Beatrice and I believe she was from New York. I have no other information on her except the above. I did try to reach her but my letters were unanswered. I am sorry to say that I do not have the address either.

Ardis,

I, too, am a Lhamon descendant. However, I must warn you that in searching for a Lhamon ancestor with the spelling "Lhamon", you will find all kinds of spellings - such as Lemon, Lemmon, Layman, Laymon, Lehman, Lhaman, and Lhamon to mention a few. I am a descendant fo Laura (Lhamon) Standiford from George Lhamon, from Abraham Lhamon, from Abraham, from Ludwig Lehman (Lemmon) from John Christian Lemon (Leaman, etc.) My 3rd great grandfather Abraham had his name spelled four different ways on a legal document.

Hello!
the only thing I know about my grandfather George Lhamon is that he was from New York State, and his DOB is 8/12/1874. That's pretty close to Eva's. I believe he had a brother. He could have had a sister, too, but I checked with my sister and she just knew that he was a veteran of the Spanish American War. That's about it. The woman he married was Icelandic, Hannah Asbjornsson by birth. They had 5 children.
Our mother's name was Verna Faye Lhamon Ringer, which is sort of a weird similarity to Eva Mae Lhamon Dinger.
Good luck with your search.

Dean-
thanks for your response.
About all we know about our grandfather George Lhamon is that his DOB is 8/12/1874 in New York state, he served in the Spanish American war, and I think he had a brother. That's about it.
My mother told us the name in French would be L'Hamon, but it was pronounced like lay-mon or layman. I, too have seen many variations.
If you learn anything more, please keep the board posted.

John: How have you been? When did you move to St. Louis? The Elmer and Eva Mae Lhamon Dinger that I am looking for is also your ancestor. I have been having a difficult time finding anything on her except she was Widowed in 1948 and she lived on Goodfellow Blvd in St. Louis. I had the Library check up to the 1954 Directories. She was still listed. Maybe I better ask this is the John that is realated to the Illinois Lhamon's Right? I hope so. E-Mail me by the above address. Hope to hear from you again. Karen

Yes I'm the same John. On the phone with my Father now! He doesn't remember Eva Mae. We/He has been in Mo from 1960 to present.
I never recieved anything on the work that Harvey was doing. Do you have any updates or info on where to get the book?

Ardis,

Sorry! The George Lhamon I am referring to was born in Ohio. His parents were Abraham and Elizabeth (Harrod) Lhamon
