Leyck, pronounced "like"

Since I am stonewalled anyway here goes:
I am the granddaughter of Frederick Conrad Leyck b:abt 1875 d: Aug 1939, m: 1886 to Fanny Grimshaw b: abt 1875 d: 1948 Stapleton,Staten Island, Richmond County, New York.
I am also seeking information on Emil Leyck. His wife, Mrs. Emil Leyck appears in the 1886 Directory for Staten Island, New York. Emil may have been the brother or father of Frederick.
These people were dead long before I was born and any information is from long ago memories of stories told by Fredericks children which also conflick. My Dad always said "they came from Germany" and that we were second generation German. My cousins Mom said "they were born in this country." There is also a possibility that the spelling of the last name was changed. One thing both elders did agree on was that the Von was dropped of the name.
Is Leyck REALLY Liike?
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated
