Walter H. Lexow, 91,
a lifelong North East,PA, resident,
passed away Monday, February 20, 2012 at St. Mary's at Asbury Ridge. He was born on June 22, 1920 in North East, Pa. a son of the late William F. and Augusta Meehl Lexow. Walt was a T/Sgt. with the U.S. Army during WWII having served in the Northern Solomons and the South Philippines. Walt was a lifetime member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in North East and served for many years as Treasurer and on various Boards, was active in the Choir and the Lutheran Laymens' League. . Prior to his retirement in 1985, Walt was employed as a postal clerk and supervisor with the U.S. Postal Service. Walt served as the family historian for many years and enjoyed researching the Lexow family genealogy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jule E. Lexow in 1992 and one brother Charles Lexow. Walt is survived by one son, John W. Lexow, one daughter, Janet E. Lexow and his grandson, Cole Elkin Lexow all of North East and a very special family friend, Denise Bonyeau of Westfield, Mass.. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the W. Tad Bowers Funeral Home, 92 S. Lake St., North East, Pa. on Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend funeral services on Saturday at 11 p.m. at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 30 Clinton St., North East, Pa. Rev. David Kuchta, Pastor of St. Paul's will officiate. Interment, with full military honors, will follow in North East Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church Endowment Fund, 30 Clinton St., North East, Pa., The Community Nursing Services of North East, 7 Park St., North East, Pa. or to the McCord Memorial Library, 32 W. Main St., North East, PA, 16428.
