does anyone know of history or connections of levels family originally from empire, AL? or connection with maner family from cullman, AL? levels may have been spelled levels, levells, leavells; have not found any other spellings of maner but suppose maynor, manor, etc. might have applied. original Jack J. Levels married daughter of a man named Crow; they had numerous descendants.

Re: James Carl Levels Empire, Alabama

I think we are looking for the same line. Jack J. (possibly James) Levells and Mary Lee Crow/Crowe Levels had a number of children and one of them was James Carl Levels. The family was also located in Empire, AL. A cousin (sadly, we have lost touch) sent this information to me about two years ago; it is fairly accurate.

Jack J. Levels 1866 1917
(he married Mary Lee Crow; he mentioned vaguely that he came from Georgia but nobody was sure where; a letter came after his death from long lost relatives trying to locate him but their name, sadly, has not been found either)
Mary Lee Crow 1874 1954
their children:

Eula Levels 06/19/1893 01/14/1938
Vera Levels 08/15/1896 01/14/1938
Edward Levels 11/25/1901 07/28/1982
James Carl Levels 06/18/1905 03/ XX /1972
Jonathan Levels 06/05/1907 04/XX/1982
Charles Crim Levels 04/25/1940 12/18/1970
Thurman Clay Levels 04/26/1917 09/28/1962
Arvil Levels 03/03/1917 03/30/1956
Zena May Levels 05/06/1918 06/02/1940
Eva Levels
Lois Levels (one of Edward Levels' sons also married a Lois Alleen Boyles, so the name may appear in reference to either woman)
Maggie Levels

Also, there were some variations in the spelling of the surname, and it may be that some of the children in this group actually spelled their surnames differently even though they were born in the same county to the same parents.
Hope some of this is useful. I have a lot of names and dates collected that I believe link up but it will be years before I have the time to sort through it all and probably years before I am able to return to Alabama and go do real research in courthouse records, etc.

I am looking for information on my grandfather and great-grandfather. They are James Carl Levels Sr. and James Carl Levels Jr. (they both went by Carl)The birthdate on James Sr. is 6/18/05 and death date is March of '72. James Carl Jr.'s birthdate is Oct. 12 I believe and I'm not sure of the year--about 1924 I think.
James Carl Senior married Cynthia Woods (DOB-9/4/06) and they lived in Empire Alabama for many years.
James Carl Jr. was killed in an automobile accident about 1948.
If anyone is related or has information to share, please email me. I'm doing this research for my mom. Carl Jr. was her dad.
Thanks!
Ronala Graves
Jasper, Al.
