Hi, Susan:

I've got the 1870 and 1880 U. S. Census, as well---along with Selinda's mother's death certificate. The writing on the death certificate is scribbled out and so illegible it's difficult to read. Although the State transcribed the last name of her parents as "Larimore," the only letter that can actually be decoded with certainty is the "L." I'm attaching the document file below.

Again, thanks for your kind words about mom. We miss her terribly.

Warm Regards,
Barbara

First of all, I'm sorry to hear about Lois, she was my Godmother, even though she was in Michigan, I believe Shirley was the proxy. I told my mom, Gert LeVoir yesterday & we were trying to figure out where to send a card. She has an old address for Sharon Centilli Kook in Rochester, MI, & info for Leone but can you help with who to send a card to?

My grandmother Selinda IS the daughter of Oliver & Selinda Laramie. They lived on a farm in Chocolay, MI, Marquette County. The 1880 census reflects the names of Grandma Selinda's siblings who were still living at home & 2 farm workers. Don't forget, Selinda's mother was married twice. Her mother's maiden name was Selinda Larmore. Her parents (Oliver and Selinda) are listed on her death certificate. If you want a copy of the census I can email it to you. Contact me at aqualitylife1@yahoo.com Susan (LeVoir) Léveillé

Update on My Mom and Great Great Grandma Selinda, mother of Selinda Laramee Levoir

Hi, Cousins:

I know I haven't posted in awhile---my apologies. Just to let the extended Levoir family know....my Mom (Lois Agnes Micek Centilli, oldest daughter of Merle Levoir) passed away January 7th, 2015 after a brief illness. My four sisters and I would like to ask that you all remember her (and my father Sidney who passed away in 2011) in your prayers. Just want you all to know that I'm still on the trail of Selinda Laramee/Laramie Levoir's mother, Selinda. So many surnames have been associated with her: Laramour, Normand, St. Onge, Sorel---and her first name has been found in records as Selinda, Lucinda, Selina, Celina, etc. Also discovered that her parents were not Oliver Garmil Laramie and his wife Selinda. These individuals may be distantly related, but they settled in the Massachusetts area and the vital dates, names of children, etc., are all different. I'm almost positive that Selinda's real father was Francis Xavier "Oliver" Aupry dit Laramee---a very old and distinguished family in Canada. His wife Selinda (our Selinda Laramee Levoir's mother) is much more difficult to track down. I've searched all over Quebec, Montreal, upstate New York, Vermont, etc. Not giving up. She's the one branch in my family tree that I can't trace back. Recently, I've had DNA testing with 23 and Me and also Family Tree DNA. One of the tests was for Maternal Mitochondrial DNA---which is passed down from mother to daughter to daughter, on and on unchanged for up to 1,000 years. I'm hoping that through this, I'll be able to identify the real identity of my great great grandma Selinda, who I'm directly descended from through my maternal line. Will keep you all updated.

Pierre,

are you still there? I would like to share with you information on the descendants of Onesime LeVeille. He was the father of my grandmother: Violet (Viola) LeVoir. She was the 2nd oldest of 15 or 16 children. My mother, Blanche was her oldest daughter. Blanche told me that Viola changed the family name from LeVeille (or similarly spelled name) to LeVoir. I never asked the particulars. What spelling was changed to what spelling. Which courthouse?

I dearly hope that you are still there and still interested.
Thank you.

Barbara Ann Wahl

Hi Fred, I am a little late but I finally ran across your message. My email address is bostonlvr2001@yahoo.com; I would love to talk. I remember your mom, we would meet up with her when I would visit my Grandma Ida. Unfortunately I was too young to understand the significance of visiting with family. I do, to this day, wish "Mother Leveille" as my grandma called great grandma was home when we stopped by. I never had the chance to meet her. My Aunt Cookie is looking for your email address. Her mother Frances passed away recently and she wanted to get a hold of you. It was for this reason I was researching our original email and found your last post. Please provide your email address and I will pass it onto Aunt Cookie.

Talk to you soon,
Sue Leveille McLeavy

Laramour Connection

I believe that my great grandmother Selinda Philomene [Laramie] Levoir's mother's name was Selinda [Salinda] Laramour, who lived for a time in Vermont and died in Itasca, MN. As this surname is a common gaelic name, I'm trying to determine if we have any Scots or Irish in our bloodlines. (I also believe that great grandma Selinda also named one of her babies "Donohue." Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Barbara

Hello, cousins:

I am Merle Levoir's granddaughter, Barbara. (My mother is Lois Micek Centilli.) Reading the recent responses, I often heard my Great-Uncle Chester's name, as well as my mother's cousin "Violi." I am still extremely interested in the Levoir/Laramie family history. My grandma spoke of relatives who owned property around Paris but who left for Canada during the French Revolution. I was also wondering if on the Levoir/Leveille side we might have some Native American connections. I look forward to hearing any new information.

Hello! Another Levoir cousin---how wonderful! My grandma (Merle) loved her sisters very much. I remember hearing her talk very lovingly about them as I was growing up. When I was a young girl, Aunt Daisy came once to visit grandma while she was at our home in Clarkston, Michigan...and I was amazed at how much the two sisters looked alike! I remember Aunt Daisy's beautiful long white/grey hair, wrapped in a braid around her head. She seemed so warm and cheerful. Well, it seems like we've got Aunt Violet's granddaughter, Uncle Chet's granddaughter, and your Aunt Merle's granddaughter together on this website. Wouldn't it be great to put together a family tree (so we can keep everybody straight) and perhaps (this would be wonderful) to start writing down and collecting the oral stories we remember from our grandparents. Someone mentioned a "farm" in this discussion thread. Would that be in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan? Do you know exactly where? Also, I've always wondered why our great-grandfather Joseph Levoir also went by the name of Onesime Leveille? Somewhere along the line I had heard that he had been placed in an orphanage and the nuns changed his name to Joseph Levoir because it was easier to spell---but that doesn't make any sense to me. Anyone out there have any information on him? I ask because it appears he may have had brothers that remained in the upper peninsula and they retained the last name of Leveille. Thanks for kind comment on my married last name, Viola. I will let mom (Lois) know that you are well and say "Hi" for you.

Love and Prayers for all my Levoir cousins---
Barbara

My mother is Lois (Micek)Centilli, daughter of Merle (Levoir) Micek, daughter of Selinda (Laramie) Levoir (aka Leveille). My mother had an Uncle Chet (Chester), an aunt Violi, and a cousin Violet (I believe)---among "many" other relatives. I believe my great-grandmother had 17 children. There is also someone in, I think Champion, MI who used to have the whole tree on the internet, but I've not been able to find it recently.

Grandma Selinda & Grandpa Joseph (Onesime) had 16 single birth children. Not all 16 were alive at the same time. A baby boy died on the farm before my dad (the 16th) was born. I also heard from our cousin Barbara (Wahl) Mozayeny, Aunt Viley's granddaughter (Blanche's daughter) the same week I heard from you. Exciting! Tell your mom that Janice (my sister) is having surgery for cancer 9-28-2011. We need prayers. Love, Susan L.

I'm confused. Lois is my first cousin on my mother's side, not my father's. I did hear of your last name at a LeVoir family picnic, however, but didn't know there was a connection to Lois. I know Lois came to a couple of LeVoir picnics but thought my sister had invited her. Merle was my father's sister. Are you saying that you're my cousin on both sides of the family? As far as the French-Canadian connection, the family promoted more of a pure-bred France connection but now I've learned the Canadian connection goes back to at least my great-grandparents. Two of my siblings and I believe we have some Ojibwe blood as French-Canadians are often mixed. I have high cheek bones myself. Were you at Jerry's funeral? I was there. Please answer about this double connection. Thanks, Susan

I'm sorry, but I just now saw your message. Our problem is that our name was changed by American schools & we lost a lot of access to the family tree. I do know that my grandfather, Onesime Léveillé had brothers in America. Supposedly, many family members emigrated from Canada. However, it has been said that he was not close to his brothers. I don't know if or why or if one of them was named Albert. Please let us know anything you hear. Thanks, Susan LéVeillé, aka LeVoir

There were either 16 or 18 children. Four might have died young. One of them died in her crib of rat bites.
Viola was born 3-23-1885, died March 1967 in Minneapolis. She had 3 children: Blanche Robins, Lylah and Clayton Ramsden. She never married Robins, and died as Viola Ramsden.

Daisy Walsh born 12-20-1888 and died in Michigan Feb. 1981. She had children, but I don't know how many. She lived in Flint.

Merle Micek born 4-27-1906 and died 3-24-1994 in Minneapolis.. Her husband was Frank, and she had 8 children.

Chester Levoir born 3-12-1911 and died October 1982 in Minneapolis. I am sure that he was married.

Edmond Levoir born 1-25-1890 and died Oct 1965 in Minneapolis.

Walter Levoir born 8-27-1904 anddied Aug 1984 in Flint Michigan.

Henrietta (Hattie Levoir), no information except that she committed suicide over her heartbreak that she could not marry her lover, and her mother in law would not let her have her baby.

Herbert Levoir I have no information on him, except that he suited up with Canada when the US wouldn't take him and died presumably in the first world war, a victim of gas by his own side when his gas helmet failed in some test.

Please share any information you have concerning Onesimes family.

Thank you.

Hi,
My grandmother was also their daughter. She is generally considered to be their oldest daughter, but they had a way of changing things to suit their needs. Anyway, her name was Viola (born 3-23-1885, and died March 1967). Viola had three children, and her 2nd and 3rd child were born with name of Ramsden. She had sisters, Daisy Walsh, who lived in MIchigan, Irene McArdle who lived in St. Paul, Merle Micek who lived in Minneapolis. There is also a Levoir named Tillie, and I don't know whether she was an in-law or not. Another sister was Hattie or Henrietta who committed suicide because her would-be-mother-in-law would not let her have her baby, born out of wedlock. Her boyfriend was Bill. Hattie was so distraught that she killed herself by carbon monoxide poisoning in a car. I have never found any other information on Hattie, except that story. My mother Blanche told me that story. I think that Hattie might have been her age.

Please share information about your grandmother and her family. Thanks.

By the way, your name certainly is beautiful.

Hi Selinda was my mother's grandmother. What is the evidence that she was born in Chocolay, Michigan? I know nothing about her. Any information would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Excuse me, but is it possible that this Onesime Leveille (or Joseph Levoir) was the same person married to "Selina Laramee?" They lived in Crystal Falls, Michigan, and then moved to the Minneapolis, Minnesota area? If so, my grandmother was their daughter. Please confirm that we are speaking about the same person. Thanks.
