My great-grandfather came to the US in the 1880s from Riga, Latvia. His name was Samuel Bowschewer, but his brother Joseph used Bovshover for most of his life. Samuel was born in Lyadi, near Mogilev, Belarus. His father's name was Ury. Samuel brought Joseph and another brother, Mendel or Max, to the US. There were other siblings, but there aren't many people left who can provide details.
There is another family called Bofshever that I've recently (like three days ago) come into contact with through Facebook. Their ancestors are from Ukraine. The man I emailed (Robert Bofshever) says his grandfather's name was Harry (Herschel). Harry went from Kharkov to Nova Scotia, then to Montreal, and from there to New York State.
I'm waiting to hear from Robert again. I will let him know about you, and if it's OK with him, I can give you his email address.
Do you know the Bovshovers who live (or lived) in Rishon-le-Zion?
Thank you for your note. I hope you can give me more information on your family history. It's possible we're all related. The name is so unusual that it's hard to imagine there isn't a connection.
