I know this family. I used to babysit Tom's kids. They live a few miles away from me. Here is what is written in the Pioneers and Progress (local history) book

Elmer E. Lesher S 1/2 27-40-25-W4 (That is the land location in Lacombe County, Alberta where his farm was)

Elmer Lesher came from Agra, Kansas, to the Clive area in March 1923 and has farmed in and near this community ever since. in 1954 he married Edna E. Gish, they have two children Tom and Susan.

Elmer has 5 children from a former marriage: Isabelle (Mrs. Paul Angel), Eileen (Mrs. John Le Blanc), Bob, Bill and Sandra (Mrs. Lowell Wattie).

Hope this helps a little!

BW
Dear Audrey, I've been working for a couple of months on the Lesher family that moved to Ohio, also descendants of Jacob and Catharina (Sheets). Everybody seems to come to a dead end on that line. I just found your post in the "Lesher Families of America" about where Jacob was born and when. I think I may be getting a few clues and have some theories about that, but was really interested that you had an 1898 family record about him. I'd love to know more about what it says. You can contact me at semporna@mindspring.com. Many thanks, Donna

I do not know if there is any connection, but I have a Lesher who married a Walter. John Lesher (son of Jacob Lesher and Katherina Sheets) married Christina Walter, who was born on December 17, 1990 in Tohicken, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Her parents were Peter and MariaMargaret (also spelled Margrethea) Walter. (It appears she went by Margaret). Peter may have served in the Revolutionary War as a Pennsylvania soldier. I have not looked at your tree as yet but have looked at the census which lists your Elizabeth Paulin Lesher Ingram as born in 1866. Is she the daughter of George W Lesher and Jeanette Davis? My Elizabeth Paulin Lesher would be her grandmother. She is my 2nd great grandmother. She was married to Austin A Lesher. I would love to exchange information with you.
Sincerely
Ann Francesconi

Would there be any land or will records for this Peter BRUBAKER, husband of Maria LESHER?

I am looking to document the information stated by Richard Warren Davis that Abraham and Maria (Lesher) Brubaker had a(n) (unnamed) daughter who married Jacob BARNCORD.

She would be of the generation to marry the Jacob Barncord who lived 1792 - 1853 in Franklin County, PA. This could make her the probable mother of Jacob's children NOT the wife, Catherine, who is found with him in 1850 and in his 1853 will. The vast majority of trees identify her as the mother of Jacob's children. Some name her as Catherine Brandt, which brings up the possibility that she is the widow of John Sheller, further evidenced by the Elizabeth Sheller in the Jacob Barncord household in 1850 and in the household of Catherine Barncord, widow of Jacob, in 1860.

I hope to find proof or denial of this theory. If you can point me to some record sources, I would be quite grateful.

Thomas and Polly (Bowman) Lesher. He belongs to a family of substance and stability, and of study characteristics. He is the third generation in his line to occupy and cultivate the home farm.

His grandfather, Jacob Lesher, was a native of Dauphin county, and a farmer. He was especially enterested in raising fine blooded livestock, and had a reputation for breeding some of the best horses in the region. He was married to Miss Christiana Mertz, and had eight children: John; Jacob; Sallie, wife of a Mr. Gebhard; Gideon; Polly; Daniel; Thomas and Samuel. Both he and his wife died suddenly, without sickness, on the homestead; Mr. Lesher, at the age of ninety-one.

Rev. Thomas Lesher, father of Samuel H., was born on the old homestead, East Hanover township, April 4, 1812. He was occupied through life I farming, and was also an honored and useful minister of the United Brethren church. He traveled widely, preaching the gospel and ministering to the spiritual needs of the people. Polly Bowman, to whom he was married, was born in Lebanon county, Pa., daughter of Jacob Bowman. They had six children: Jacob B.; Samuel H; Kate; Lydia; John T. and Mary. Rev Mr. Lesher was an ardent Republican, a warm-hearted and benevolent man, and a devoted father. She is a faithful member of the United Brethren church.

Samuel H. Lesher attended the schools of the township and derived much profit from his school work. He belongs to a family of more than ordinary culture and intelligence, and found much help and intellectual stimulus at home. He learned the business of farming on the old homestead, and when manhood came was prepared to take the honored place of his ancestors as a first-class farmer. In 1875 he took full charge of the home farm on his own account, and has ever since devoted his attention to its cultivation.

Mr. Lesher was married, in October, 1874, to Miss Matilda, daughter of Thomas and Catherine (Light) Wagner. They have seven children, all living: Kate M., Henry G., Fannie, Cora, Ellen, Lydia and Annie. In 1894 Mr. Lesher was elected treasurer of the Cemetery Association at Union Deposit, Pa., and served for one year. In 1895 he was again elected to the same office. He filled the office of secretary of the Union Sunday school for two years, and has served one year as its assistant superintendant. Mr. Lesher is a prominent citizen, and is very highly esteemed.

Thanks for the possibilities, but no, that is not my line... I've already checked it out:). I have seen the name as Katherine, Catherine, Catherina, etc. I do know that she was a SHEETS and she married Jacob Lesher. I have found this information in Jacob's will abstract. Again, thank you for trying!

I have also been looking for his year of birth and the marriage date/place for he and Catharina. I would love to share any information.

The recent reply to your old message attracted my attention to your message. Do you have any information regarding the Jacob Lesher that was a brother to your John Lesher? There were many Jacob Leshers in Pennsylvania and it would not be unlikely that one first found (when he married) in Frederick Co., Maryland would have been from Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania as that was in line with a route of travel of many who disembarked in Philadelphia. But my Jacob has remained unconnected for far as my evidence demonstrates. His wife, Mary Ann or Anna Maria Coffman/Kaufmann, however was from eastern Pennsylvania and their marriage might have resulted from his following her to Maryland.

Thanks for any information.

Nick Sturm

The best I have so far on our LESHER family is that 4 brothers came into PA from Germany in the late 1700s. All were farmers from Luneburg area of Germany, but their names were Loescher when in Germany, Americanized in PA, due to the exact same pronounciation. In German it means extinguisher, as in fire extinguisher. There are still farmers with that name in the area. As to the Heinrich Lesher family name from Zweibrucken, Germany and Schaffhausen, Switzerland there is some confusion due to the records management with the name, I think. I am currently living in Stuttgart, Germany about half way between the two. Over the next 2 1/2 years, I hope to find more information here in Germany and Switzerland.

I saw your inquiry about Jacob Lesher on Ancestry.com. I was searching for Jacob Lesher because a Jacob Lesher and a Simon Walter (my ancestor) co-bought property in Barbour County, Virginia in October 1804. Simon Walter also was buried at the Mount Morris Cemetery. One of the family researchers also said that Simon Walter came from Cocalico Township in Pennsylvania, but I have never found collaborating information.

I always wondered if Jacob Walter was married to either a sister of Simon Walter or a sister of Simon Walter's wife, Anna Maria Lower Walter. I would appreciate any insight you can provide. Let me know if you need anything from me.

Best,
Dale (dwalter1@gmail.com)
Hey John,
I am pretty sure that I got 92 pages from you in 1999 or 2000, but at that time you didn't have specific names on David Lesher Sr's children. I am from his son, Casper, who was married to Margaret Cook. I have the names and dates of their children. Their son, Jacob Albert, is my great grandfather. If you already have all this information, I won't send it.As I said, you didn't have real info at that time on David and Barbara Ober's children. (See pg. 49-51 of your Family History Report. Let me know.
I would like more info on Heinrich if you have it. Thanks for writing me. Does anyone have pictures? I have copies of pictures of Casper Lesher and Margaret and their 9 children. I don't know how well they scan and send. I could try. Let me know.
Your cousin, Lynn
