elusive family members

Surnames: Lenahan, McKay
Hi,

I am having the most difficult time finding a few ancestors and information about them. On my father's father's side, I know next to nothing about my great-grandfather (Edward Lenahan) because their family never spoke about him nor will they (supposedly there was a falling out of some sort). On my mother's mother's side, I only know the name of my great-great-grandfather's name (John McKay) (according to my grandfather, he died when my great-grandfather was very young, who was born in 1906).
I've searched the census records from 1880 to 1930 and they are nowhere to be found. The slightest hint I have on my great-grandfather is from my grandfather's birth certificate (b. about 1908). They both came from Brooklyn, so visiting cemeteries will take a long time to go to all of them.
Does anyone have any other places where I could find some clues as their deaths? If I could at least find their death certificates, it would make things easier I hope.
