I am looking for information on Betsey Lena. Her father was Willie Lena. Between 1899 and 1902, her guardianship was awarded to John Yarbrough. Apparently John Yarbrough was a name given to a man that was a full blood Creek Indian by the name of Micco. John's father was listed as Micco. Mother's name listed a Cowasta. After the guardianship of Betsey was awarded to John Yarbrough, she took on his name. There was also a boy, Thomas Harjo, that was awarded to John Yarbrough and he also took his name. Would like to find out what the man's real name was that took the name of John Yarbrough when he applied for land grants from the Creek Indians for himself, Betsey, & Thomas, how he decided to use that name, and why. Of all the names he could have used, why Yarbrough? This man also had a brother, James Yarbrough, with same father and mother as John. Anyone that can shed some light on this for me, please contact me.
Any help appreciated. Peggy
