Her father was Oscar Lemoine. I am escpeially interested in Oscar's parents, Deoxilus and Elizabeth Longuepee Lemoine. Any clues you could provide could help me to get a start.

MOBILE REGISTER - 26 JUNE 1917

AGED MOBILE WOMAN EXPIRES SUDDENLY

Mrs Victoria Pizzetta, 80, Stricken Preparing to Retire

Victoria Pizzetta, relict of the late Maurice Pizzetta, died suddenly Monday evening at the home of her niece, Mrs W M John, 1444 Dauphin Street. The cause of death is attributed to a sudden attack of acute heart failure. Mrs Pizzetta was in her eightieth year.
Although Mrs Pizzetta had been ill for some time, her death was entirely unexpected. As the aged woman was preparing to retire last night, she suddenly became faint. She was assisted to her bed, but died before medical assistance could be procured.
Mrs Pizzetta was born and reared in Mobile. She will be buried Wednesday from the residence of Mrs Johnson. The funeral rrangements will be made later. The deceased is survived by two sisters, and several nieces and nephews.

Not my family, just sharing from the newspaper archives of the Mobile Public Library. I have copied this exactly as written in the obituary. However, Mrs John and Mrs Johnson may be the same woman.

Estine Lemoine, born 12-06-1924 in Big Bend, LA; died 09-30-1937 of ruptured appendix at hospital in New Orleans, LA at the age of 13 years, 10 months.

This information is handwritten on paper that is taped to the back of a framed, studio portrait of Estine Lemoine that I found at Barze' Place Antique & Collectibles Mall, Picayune, MS, 601/749-0756, on November 4, 2008. There is also a small engraving affixed to the back of the frame identifying the individual as "Estine Lemoine" and the portrait as being taken in 1936.

This find is a genealogist's dream. The color portrait is in excellent condition in its original period frame (with convex glass) which measures 16-1/2" by 10-1/2". This was likely a confirmation portrait. I and others thought young Estine resembled Alfred E. Neuman, the fictional mascot of Mad Magazine.

The Catholic Church entry for Donas' baptism is at the office of the church in Natchitoches. I used to have a copy but my records have become disorganized over the last ten years. The entry clearly stated that Donas was teh son of Jean Antoine LeMoine and Genevieve Bellegarde. He was baptized at the same time as his brother, Edward, I think.

I am his great-granddaughter and Donas is buried here on our property with a lot of other LeMoine kindfolk.

Regards,
Theresa

I am descended from Laban and Rosilla, and I have their family Bible, which gives death dates for the three people you named in your query, and for others in the family. In Laban's case, the Bible says he died on Sep 11, his gravestone says he died on Aug 21, and another family record says he died in Oct. All of these dates were in 1865. At least the year was consistent! I will be glad to share with you all the information I have and would be happy if you would get in touch with me directly at joanklince@earthlink.net.

And I know quite a bit about Sally Ann's descendants so would be interested to know how you fit in. In brief, Laban Clark Lemoin was son of Benjamin Derby Lemoin and Susanna Eldred. Benjamin was son of John Lemoin and Mary Dorby. Rosilla Hinkston was daughter of Joseph Hinkston and Caroline Webb. There's much more and I will be glad to share.
Joan Lince

Re: Lemoine Family in Grant Parish, Lousiana

I have received emails from several kind researchers. One said that the correct name for "Zeby" Lemoine is Ezebia Lemoine and that she married William O'Neal, August 8, 1882. I have been able to document this marriage in the Louisiana records found at Ancestry.com.

This researcher also said that Ezebia is the sister of Martha Ann Lemoine, third wife of Jesse D. Bell. I found documentation for that marriage in the records for Louisiana at Ancestry.com, also.

In addition, I found Ezebia on the census as the wife of William O'Neal. She was shown as the mother of Roy Oneal on the 1920 census. Martha Bell was in the same household and listed as Aunt to head of family, Roy Oneal.

Another researcher contacted me to say that she is descended from Virginia/Eugenia (Lemoine) and William M. Stewart through their daughter, Lillie.

Both of these researchers share my brick wall. Neither know the names of Virginia/Eugenia, Ezebia or Martha Ann's parents. Both provided new leads which have been followed.

On Rootsweb's World Connect, a researcher states that Virginia Lemoine (born 1831), mother of Martha and Emile Lemoine is married to Peter Baudry sometime between 1870 (when Emile was born) and the 1880 census when all are living in the same household. I cannot document that this is the same Martha Lemoine nor can I find an Emile Lemoine who was born in 1870 on any other census.

I am willing to hire someone to do some legwork or look-ups in the Grant Parish area. I am not sure where to go next. Marriage certificate of the era don't provide the names of parents. I think death certificates are unavailable due to Hurricane Katrina. Are obits for the 1950s available anywhere? If Virginia/Eugenia lived to be 106 or 107 as family legend states, wouldn't there be an obit or news article somewhere?

I welcome all suggestions, ideas and information.

Happy New Year to everybody!!

Elaine Kaufman
Kissimmee, Florida

Re: Lemoine Family in Grant Parish, Lousiana

Hello, Thank you for your response to my query on the Lemoine family. I feel quite confident that I will fit into the family that came from Canada, eventually. Currently, I am just trying to get past the 1870 census. Going backwards:

I was born in Arkansas in June, 1939.

My mother was born in Alfalfa, Rapides Parish, Louisiana, May 5, 1919 and died in Lonoke, Lonoke, Arkansas, August 31, 1998.

My maternal grandmother, Deloris (Graves) Norton, was born in Louisiana February 15, 1903 and died in Keevil, Monroe, Arkansas on May 22, 1944. She was married to James Norton in Rapides Parish, Louisiana on the 7th day of July, 1918.

My maternal great-grandmother, Mary Paralee (Stewart) Graves, was born March 7, 1876 in Colfax, Grant Parish, Louisiana (per family legend). She married William H. Graves in Grant Parish on April 2, 1899. Witnesses were W. M. Stewart, Jr. and Gus St. Andre'. She died September 17, 1977 in Pineville, Rapides Parish, Louisiana. She was buried in Springhill Cemetery.

1910 Census for District 64, Police Ward #7, Grant Parish, Louisiana
Family #400
Stewart, William, head, 60, married 30 years, LA, MS, MS, farming, home farm
Eugene, wife, 50, 10 births 5 living, LA, LA, LA
Mary, daughter, 28, married 8 years, 4 births 4 living, LA
(has arrow drawn to denote she is the wife of Wm. Currently, the office where I might locate a copy of death certificate is closed due to Hurricane Katrina...per the internet notice.

I wonder if there is a way to locate Jean F. Stewart, the one year old in the 1930 census. All of Mary (Stewart) Graves' children are now deceased. Her grandchildren and great-greatchildren, such as myself, have no further information.

I have started and stopped this family several times because I keep running into this brick wall. I cannot find Eugenia on the 1860 census. I know that it will take a lot of energy, focus and patience to begin a letter campaign to the various government agencies and genealogical societies to locate more information so I have set it aside until now.

I have bits and pieces of notes on family chatter that have very little factual information but everyone is convinced that Eugenia had a sister named, Zebra. I assume they thought it was an unusual name so it was remembered for that reason. I wonder if her first female child being named, Adaline, is a clue.

I welcome all and any information about the Lemoine family and any advice any one may be able to give me about doing research in Louisiana via long distance. I cannot forsee an opportunity to take a trip to Louisiana any time in the near future.

Thanks, again,
Elaine Kaufman
Kissimmee, Florida

Great! Sally was my 4th great grandmother. Her descendents leading toward me are her son, Albert B. Roxbury and his wife Nora Belle Root. Their daughter, Beulah Mae Roxbury and her husband Unknown Olsen (or other spelling variations). Their daughter Norma Elaine Olsen and her husband Kenneth Abrin Ball and their daughter, my grandmother (living). I don't have anything yet on Laban Clark or Rosilla or their ancestors yet. And you have photos?? Wow! If there is any info on the Roxbury's you might want, I'll be more than happy to share. Thank you!!
Aaron Blake
Paragould, AR

Hello!!! I'm one of the many, many LeMoines in Louisiana and I hail from Grant Parish, LA. I have traced my line back to a Charles LeMoi(y)ne who was in Natchitoches Parish, LA in the mid 1700's. I've always been told that we descend from the LeMoyne brothers, too. Would be happy to share any info I have with you if you want. Really glad to have made your acquaintance. Looking forward to hearing from you soon via e-mail.

Thanks for the reply--sorry that I have just gotten back to the message boards. My great-grandfather was Donas LeMoine, b. 1821, a younger son of Jean Antoine LeMoine who was in turn the son of Charles LeMoine of Natchitoches. I believe this Charles was born in the Illinois Country (how he got there I have no idea) around 1728. I would love to have more info on this interesting branch of my family if you have anything. My info is purely for my own satisfaction and I do not have nor plan to have any web pages, etc. I say this because a friend of mine (genealogical) told me recently that she gave a lot of info to someone who turned around and used it to form her own web page but used the info incorrectly. Needless to say, she is still very angry over this. Hope to hear from you.

LeMoine Family in Louisiana

Saw your messages about the LeMoines. I have found a John LeMoine in my family tree who was the son of Jean Baptiste LeMoine and Marie Cephalide LeMoine. This John was born around 1850 or thereabouts. I don't know what happened to him. Jean Baptiste LeMoine was a brother to my great-grandfather, Donas LeMoine. Donas married his wife, Marie Cephalide (who was a LeMoine herself, a first cousin to the brotherss), after Jn. Bpt.'s death. I've been trying to find out where their mother, Genevieve Bellegarde LeMoine, and father, Jean Antoine LeMoine, are buried. Genevieve and Antoine had several children born in what is now Avoyelles Parish according to church records. Would love to correspond with you regarding the interesting LeMoine family. Please respond via e-mail to : tdu7167108@aol.com. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Regards, Theresa

I am the sexton for Millgrove Cemetery in Valley Township in Allegan, MI. I have several members of the Lemoin family buried here. Some of the headstones are in need of repair and I am looking for any information regarding the dates of death, specifically for Laban and Rozilla Lemoin and Ozias Lemoin. Any information you could provide would be helpful. I look forward to hearing from you.

Brandee Ellis
Valley Township
