I am 9th generation descendant of Francoise Lemoine who married Pierre Niquet 15 June 1666. Her grandson adopted her maiden name and as far as I can determine, all Sorel, Quebec area Lemoines are descended from him. He was Marc Antoine Hus dit Lemoine-Capistran. His children all took the Lemoine part of his name although others referred to them as Hus-Lemoines. Most New England Lemoines have Sorel ancestors. Also most Ontario and Manitoba Lemoines have Sorel ancestry. Edward Lemoine was my great uncle. Last record of him is in Healdsburg,(1884-85), California with wife Jane and three children, son William, daughters Catherine and Alberta. Edward was one of 14 chn. I have info on descendants of most of his siblings.please contact by E-Mail.

Almost certainly your Lemoine ancestors came from Quebec and very likely from the area around Sorel, Quebec. If you can give me the name of the first Lemoine who started your family in the US, I might be able to take you back further in Quebec. Please use E-mail as I don't often check notice boards.

Hi there...

We definitely have a match. Edwards parents were:
Antoine Lemoine 1816 – 1878
Nancy (Agnus) Lang 1812 – 1898
... although I have Edward being born 28 Nov 1843.

I have a couple of reproduced photos of Antoine and Nancy from a book written on the Lemoines.

Please get in touch to compare notes... lang.sandy at gmail.com
