I am looking for some assistance with David Lee. My David was born about 1792 in KY. He married Harriet Murdock, daughter of Asahel Murdock in Butler County, OH. He died in Wayne County, IN in 1866. His children are Eliza, Ormel, Laura, Lavinia, Andrew, William, Mary, David S., Harriet and Almira. I know that the family moved back and forth between Oxford, Ohio and Covington, KY for many years as various children were born in one place or the other. Then in the mid 1830s (the year is somewhat in question) the family clearly settled in Wayne County, IN. These are things that I have been able to confirm through more than one source.

David's will was recorded in 1866 in Wayne County, and lists his wife by name, and eight of his ten children, the other two presumably deceased.

The confusion comes in with David's parents. Most researchers show David Lee, husband of Harriett Murdock, as the son of Levi Lee and Elizabeth Compton, though I have not really been able to determine why this is thought to be so. The only piece of linked information is that there is an Elizabeth Lee buried in the Locust Grove cemetery with David and his wife, died 10-4-1847, age 84 years days. If this is indeed Elizabeth Compton Lee, then it would appear to confirm this - but I have no way of knowing that this Elizabeth is Elizabeth Compton Lee.

However, an entry in the Wayne County hsitory for his son David S. Lee states "David S. Lee is a native of Kentucky, and son of David and Harriet (Murdock) Lee, his father a native of Kentucky and his mother of Vermont. His grandfather, Nathanial Lee, was a native of England and came to American previous to the Revolutionary war. He was a soldier in the war and after its close settled in Kentucky, where he died. His wife and her family afterward removed to Oxford, Ohio."

I do not necessarily place a lot of faith in the accuracy of county history biographies, as they are generally full of errors. However, since I cannot find any other evidence that supports David Lee as the son of Levi Lee or Nathanial Lee, I thought I should ask if anyone else is researching this branch of the Lee family and had any evidence pointed to one or the other?
