I saw your postings on Mendez,Tamaulipas and the Leal family. Well I
use to drop my grandmother at Eli Rios house in Mercedes when we visited
the Valley. I knew that she was related to the Rios family but at that
time I was not into research. I have done research on the Leal family
in Mendez at the Mormon Church and they were previously from Cadereyta,
NL before they came to Mendez and Burgos area. I am stuck on two
generations back of Jose Antonio Leal. Their grandfather was Jose Maria
Leal de Leon and the grandmother was Maria Trinidad Trevino. I have
more maternal members of that family.
I come from a brother of Jose Antonio Leal, a Jesus Leal who entered in
the Mendez City archives, the family tree. I also wrote an article in a
previous journal of Hispanic Genealogical Society of Houston's journal
on my paternal Grandmother, Guadalupe Leal de Guerra. If I can find it
in Word form I will send it to you. I didn't have any children of
Antonio Leal and Navidad Garcia. I believe there was another marriage
but it might have been a sister of Navidad. Please contact me as I am
very interested because there was no information because Mendez did not
have a Catholic church and most of the people who stayed Catholic went
to Burgos, Tamp. for their sacrements. Check out the website below on
Hispanic Genealogy.
