Since I had ancestors in early Bedford County, I have been wading through the uncatalogued boxes of Bedford County “Court Judgments” which are original records kept at the Library of Virginia Records Center. In Box 72, 1793, I found a court case in which Gidion Lea sued Elijah Bocock for payment for the services which Lea provided him, like: "5 Square of flooring plained both sides, Tongued & Groved, 7 Square of Ditto Tongued & Groved, 1 Stare case, 5 Door Cases, 4 large Window frames, 4 Window Shutters, 4 Six Pannel Doors,....Framing & geting Sills & Sleepers for a passage, 5 1/4 Square of Barn flooring, etc."
I thought that you might like to know that Gidion Lea was an skilled Woodworker and to view his account statement and his signature at the bottom of the page. I have attached a photograph of the document.
