I've checked my Layton database and did not find a James Layton that fits your info at all.

But I checked the 1940 Census and found an Edd and Emma Gayton with a daughter Bonnie (10) and a son James (7) in Simpson Mississippi. When you look at the record you can see that the surname is obviously Layton and the transcriber misread the L for a G.

Is it possible that they moved to Oklahoma and Marie was born later than 1940? Is your Aunt Bonnie the right age as in this census? This is a shot in the dark just in case it helps.
