I now have a fairly complete family tree of most of the male descendants of Abraham. His origins are still unknown as no baptism has yet been found. Y-DNA results and comparisons take us back to a Most Recent Common Ancestor: Thomas Layton, born 1664 (Abraham's grandson).
Our Haplogroup is a subclade of I-M223 (I2a2a), branching downstream through the following SNPs: Z161, L801, CTS6433, to a new SNP recently named Y7426. This last SNP characterises not only our Norfolk branch of the Layton family descended from Abraham, but also earlier generations – possibly back to at least 700 BC.
If any male Laytons can relate to these SNPs, then I would be most happy to hear from you, in an attempt to find where the family was living prior to appearing in Norfolk. Our surname is most likely to have had Yorkshire origins, although there are other several British possibilities with alternative spellings in other counties.
