Leslie,

My father E. L. Layton (dna on ancestry.com as E. L. administered by me, laytsh1) has also had dna submitted to 23andme where his haplogroup was stated to be r1b1b2a1a1d1a.

Can you verify that this is your Layton's haplogroup? Could you have left off the last 1 on your recent post on another thread? I'm hoping so because this would be exciting news!

I look at my father's matches and do a filter/search by last name of Layton and have found quite a few Laytons and Lawtons from Monmouth County. I haven't seen your name though. :(

Our Layton line leads from Texas back to South Carolina around 1803 with my 3rd Great Grandfather Kinsey Layton. He and his wife died in 1830/31 respectively leaving my very young 2nd Great Grandpa and his siblings to live with their maternal Grandfather. All 3 kids made their way to Texas in the mid 1850s. None of them passed on any information to succeeding generations regarding who Kinsey's father and mother were. Generations have researched this and so far have made guesses but nothing conclusive.

I've decided that even if I can't connect Kinsey directly to his father, through DNA testing I should be able to get beyond that gap.

I believe that we may have ties back to the Laytons/Lawtons in Monmouth but so far none of the DNA matches that are tied to them actually are male Laytons but are descendants of them so we can't compare the haplogroup.

Hope to hear from you soon. Wish I had seen this thread earlier!
Thanks
