Thanks for your response. I can tell you the following additional information:
Birth certificate
She was born at 4 Whitethorn Street Bromley. The registration certificate shows the registration district of Poplar in the sub district of Bromley in the county of Middlesex.
Marriage certificate
This shows the residence for both herself and husband Frederick Kenton as 51 Credon Rd, Plaistow. The registartion certificate shows the marriage solemnised at the parish church in the parish of Plaistow in the county of West Ham.

My mother always said that she thought Cecilia was sent to a Dr Barnardo home but I have no way of knowing this. I have sent a request to them to see if this could be true.

You have more information than what you posted and it will help us help you. The birth record should give where Cecilia was born. The marrige record should give where Cecilia married. If there is any other information in either record, please post that also.

Cecilia Lawrence & Frederick Kenton

I am trying to find out some information regarding my grandmother CECILIA LAWRENCE. I have her birth certificate that shows she was born on 01/05/1887. Her mother is shown as ANN MARIA LAWRENCE but there is a line through the fathers entry.
She married my grandfather FREDERICK JAMES KENTON (DOB 13/06/1882) on 31/10/1915 and the marriage certificate shows Cecilia's father as FREDERICK WILLIAM LAWRENCE (dead)which is strange as he was not on the birth certificate.
I have no other information and cannot see her on the 1891, 1901 or 1911 censuses. My mother thinks she may have gone into a Dr Barnados home but I do not know if this is true.
I am lost as what to do next. Can anyone out there help me please.

Bill Lawrence from the Camden Neighborhood

Hello,
My father had an Uncle by the name of Bill Lawrence who was a fixture in the Camden Neighborhood of North Minneapolis for years. As a child I remember going down to the Camden Theater on a Saturday evening with my parents, and from time to time we would run into my father's Uncle Bill. He was a loaner and usally could be found around the Camden Theater.
Bill was born in Minneapolis in 1903 and died in Robbinsdale in 1978, he grew-up and lived the majority of his life in the Camden neighborhood. I was just wondering if there was anyone out there who might remember Bill Lawrence, and might have a story to tell me about him!

Henry and Lawrence are both fairly common names. That said, I see no association between the Henry Lawrence of your interest, and the Henry Lawrence starting this thread. This Henry Lawrence is closely tied for most, if not all, of his adult life in Virginia or other Southern areas. The details of your search has no Virginia association and clearly not the same person.

Henry Lawrence / Laurence was born 1752 in Malden, England or Malden, USA.

He was an apprenticed brick layer before joining the British Navy Regiment # 54.

Henry came to Canada from the United States or England.

He had two brothers and possibly more siblings.

BROTHER #1 James Lawrence / Laurence settled in Cherryfield, Maine.

BROTHER #2 Jonathan or John Lawrence / Laurence was in Watertown, Mass, then Cherryfield or Eastport, Mass. Before going to NY State and then on to Nova Scotia. He had property on “The Windsor Rd” which is now Mt. Uniacke, Nova Scotia. John had a son John.

While Henry was in the Navy, he arrived in Halifax in the early 1750s, which of course puts his date of birth in question. He first served during the 1760s building a power magizine and a bomb proof to protect the soldiers. Having been a brick layer, his skill was valuable to the 54Th Regiment. Henry from there went to the Island of Martinique, then to Guadeloupe, then to Ireland, then to Quebec and Fort Cumberland or Fort Lawrence as a soldier. Henry was discharged in 1772.

In 1780 he married Judith Watson of the old Watson Family of Fort Lawrence. Parsons Eggleson being the Clergyman. Judith was born in 1763 and died in Windsor, Nova Scotia in 1833. She was from Tracadie, Antongonish County, Nova Scotia.

Henry and Judith had a daughter Margaret at Fort Cumberland. They moved to Eastport, Maine which was very close to Cherryfield. Their second child,a son whom they named Frances was born there and possibly a third child.

They then came to Nova Scotia and purchased lot# 57 in Falmouth in April 9th, 1807 from Gould Northup. In their elderly years they moved to Windsor, Nova Scotia and lived until their death.

I have the following people but do not know where or how they tie into Henry's family, if at all. Does anyone have information about these?
-William Lawrence in 1770 at Sackville, Nova Scotia or New Brunswick my information doesn't say.
-William Lawrence in 1800 at Sackville, Nova Scotia or New Brunswick my information doesn't say.
-Elisha Lawrence in 1785 – 1793 in Kings County, Nova Scotia. I think this fellow went to Parrsboro, Nova Scotia.

I have not had much time the last few years to research, so am just getting back into it. My line goes back to William Lawrence born around 1800 in Baydon & wife Elizabeth (maiden name unknown) also born 1800, in Aldebourne. I have them with 3 sons and a daughter. Daughter, Mary Ann (b1832), married John Berrett around 1852.

Does any of this match?

Looking for parents and wife's name for James William Lawrence born 1817 in Guernsey, Channel Islands, England. He was a master mariner so not sure if his father was also a mariner and therefore Guernsey was just a port.

I found James William Lawrence only on one census: 1861 aboad the ship HMS Ranger in Dorset. His wife "Jane" was counted on the 1841 Census in St. Austell, Cornwall, 1861-1881 in Hampshire. She was always counted as the wife of a mariner, although he wasn't in the household. I haven't found a marriage record.

Sophia Lawrence born 1838 is the oldest child. She was born in St. Austell. I can't find her christening record or her birth record, although I can find her on 7 census.

His youngest son, Joseph Lawrence b. 1850, was born in St. Austell, Cornwall, He is on the 1861 census with his father, listed as the son of the ship's master.

So I'm pretty sure that the family was in St. Austell 1838 to 1850.

I got the death record of James William Lawrence from the GRO. It's not very helpful in tracing his line. He died 19 Feb 1879 at home: Bath Road, Lymington, Hampshire. States he age as 62. States occupation as Master Seaman Coasting Service.

Mystery - Jo Lewis Lawrence or Haulum

I am looking for info on my maternal gmothers family.
The story I have always been told is that she was born in Cooter, MO in 1923. I knew her name to be Jo Lewis Lawrence. Her mother's name was Georgia. Her stepfather was Thomas Parker.
Jo married Ralph Henry Haulum in 1946. They lived in Memphis, TN and had five children (Frances, Lydia, Julia, Paul, and Mary Ellen "Melie")
I cannot find any records at all on Jo or Georgia. I don't know if this is just poor record keeping, or some huge family secret.
Jo passed away in 1980. Georgia passed away in 1988. By the time I was old enough to ask questions, my grandfather wouldn't talk about it.
If anyone has any info I would be grateful.

Caroline was born about 1928 in Chicago. Her father, Clarence was born in Florida (I think) and her mother Laura Unger born in Kansas. Grandparents wer Ferdinand Unger and Cora Elizabeth Doile. It is the Doile family I follow. Would love to hear about Caroline and share the family tree with whoever contacts me. The Doile family has a lot of history begining in Scotland. I have her grandfathers Civil War discharge papers, a few photo's of him and the military sword.

Two sources of information for the descendents of William Lawrence from the ship Planter are:

1. American Genealogy, being a History of some of the Early Settlers of North America and Their Descendents" by Jerome B. Holgate, A.M. 1848. Pages 201 to 224

2."Historical Genealogy of the Lawrence Family" by Thomas Lawrence, 1858. Pages 23 to 71.

I created an Excel spreadsheet from these two sources which lists the names of all of his descendents. I can provide a copy if you want one. I also have copies of both sources.

I am descended through William Leonard's brother: John Wesley Lawrence and Mary W. Hill [aka Kirkendall or Kuykendahl].

I found what I believe to be their family in Clear Creek, Hot Spring Arkansas in 1850.

I believe that William Leonard's father was NOT a William Leonard Lawrence, Sr. - But, John Allen Lawrence, wife Mary.

I believe they are the same Lawrence's in Williamson Co., Texas in 1880. Precinct 7, page 20 at Ancestry.com
