I do like to know where my Law relatives who I have contact about the family live and how our family has spread across the country.

Will try to get in contact with you as soon as possible after hearing from you.

Mary Brammer

I have some info on the Amos B. Law in my family. Is your Amos B. Law Caucasian or African-American? The reason I ask this is because there are Laws of both races in Franklin County. I'll need to know before I try to type the info in an understandable form.
MB

I'm happy to help, but besides DNA my knowledge of the Law family is limited to my relatives in Scotland, Minnesota and Pennsylvania. The is a Law/Laws one-name study that tries to capture information on everybody named Law. They can be found at www.lawsfamilyregister.org.uk.

You should consider posting a new message (by starting a new thread) with names and dates of people you are looking for. The readers here are a great resource.
Looking for information about Ted T. Law. Middle name could have been Trusty. Was living in California in the 1960s. I think he was born in Ohio. His wife was Doris or Dorcas and I believe she was from Wyoming, or at one time she was a teacher there. They had a daughter Beverly (Tobler) and twin daughters, Elaine & Eleanor. They also had a home in Santa Barbara. Beverly and her husband Jack Tobler lived in Las Vegas in the 1960s. Any information will be greatly appreciated.
Jean

An Amos B. Law was born in Franklin Co.,VA in the late 1700s or early 1800s. His father was Daniel Law and a brother to my ancestor. I will have to check the facts to get the exact dates when I get home, but I do believe this Amos also had a son named Amos.

Catherine,

DNA is only useful for tracing your direct paternal ancestry (y-DNA) or direct maternal ancestry (mitochondrial DNA, or mtDNA), so wouldn't appear to be useful in answering your question.

In regards to your question, it would be helpful if you would attach dates to the names and to provide more detail about where they lived, when married, etc. That way, you are more likely to receive good advice. Also, you should probably re-post your question as a new thread/subject, as anyone reading this thread is probably focused on Law DNA. Regards, Kirby

Amos B. Law's age was recorded, perhaps erroneously, as twenty-six when he married my great-grandmother Susan Rodden in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina in 1874. They had three sons, with birth years ranging from 1875 to 1880. Amos does not appear with the family in the 1880 census, and the family story is that he abandoned them. That census does indicate that the boys' father was born in Virginia.

Since you have traced only back to the early 1800's, do you have info on Laws coming to America around 1700? I noticed the post here and hoped to finally be able to trace my ancestors across the ocean. Right now I am not home so I can't give detailed information. As far as my Law family, the ancestor came here through Jamestown,VA and his decedents have spread out all over the United States.

I am not at home so I can't check what records I have. Also if you have access to Ancestry.com, check the decedents of John Law died 1799 in Franklin County, VA. I know that one was an Amos. Reply if you find what you need. MB

Hello, Do you know if your Benjamen is related to the John Law of Erie listed in the 1850 census. I've been trying to connect my Law family from GA in 1828 (James Reed Law b. Ct 1798) back to New England and the John in Erie Co. could possibly his father. Thanks, Peter Law

Joe Law

According to a story told me by my mother, Eloise Law Watts, and verified by one of my aunts, a man named Joe Law lived with them and their father, Charles Benjamin Law, in Belmont, Gaston County, North Carolina for a short time about 1920-1924. Their father introduced Joe as his half-brother. Further, the family story went that Joe moved to Gastonia, Gaston's county seat, that he lived there with his wife, "Ella," and their children, and that Joe died there and is buried in a cemetery in downtown Gastonia. I've recently found census records (1910, 1920, & 1930) on the family, in addition to Joe's death certificate. Joe's wife's name was Ellen. She was born in Georgia about 1875. Some of their children's names-- born in GA, NC, & SC-- were Adelia, Walter, Bessie, Parke (or "Parks"), and Eugene. In 1910 the family was living in Alford, Hart County, Georgia; in 1920 in Anderson County, SC; and in 1930 in Laurens County, SC. Ellen's name in 1930 was listed as Ellen L. Tucker. The informant for Joe Law's death certificate was Addie Withers, and her listed address was the same as Joe's and Ellen's on Cedar Street in Gastonia. I would like to hear from any descendant's of Joe and Ellen Law, or anyone who has any information on the family. Joe Law's death certificate shows West Virginia as his birthplace. My grandfather's father's name was Amos B. Law; he was born in Virginia.

He could be. We haven't traced our Law line much beyond the early 1800's in Blount co., Tennessee, but we suspect Abraham Law lived in NC before that.

Where did your John Law settle when he came from Scotland? Who were his children? And what places did they live in? (etc.?)

There are so many Law families around the country by the time our earliest known Law ancestor (Abraham) was distinctly identified, it seems rather pointless to look at all possibilities of those bearing the Law name entering the country. Our Abraham may have been born around 1780, possibly in North Carolina.

Sorry, I don't have any record of a Giles Law in our family, or in the book on marriages that I have. I don't know about anyone in the family moving to Virginia that early, either.

I would think if you found him in the 1900 Census you would know the month and year of his birth, and if you found him in the 1960 census, he would probably be with his parents. I don't know if there is a good index to the 1860 Census in Virginia, but it is worth a try. (Or in searching the records at this site.)

Jane Law married David Noble (not Nobles) at St. James (Church, registration at Preston (this is shown on Lancashire BMD 1857.

In 1863 they had a daughter Mary Jane Noble (this is my grandmother). The Birth was in the District of Accrington (Reg'm District shown as Haslingden, Lancashire). And at the time of this birth, the mother Mary Jane Noble (nee Law) was living at 8 Thompson Court, New Accrington.

The marriage of their daughter, Mary Jane Noble, to William Cameron in January 1881 is in Blackburn. The father of the bride (David Noble) is listed with occupation Cotton Weaver.

I was just posting this information to see if I could find out more on the Law family--such as the birthdate of Jane Law, as well as who her parents were (i.e. my great g g grandparents.

Thanks,
Grace
