Yvonne, it looks as if your grandmother was the sister of my great-great-grandfather Exord Lavaliere. In his obituary (April 1917) his survivors include a sister, Mrs. Joe Campbell of Spring Brook. I don't have a huge amount of information on the family but I do have the direct line's marriages. So, if this is your family, let me know I'll send you as what I know. If not, best of luck to you in your search! Tanya

Lavalier Connection

Yvonne- I'm glad to hear that we're a match. I was going to send a copy of Exord's obit. but you must already have one! My great-grandmother was his daughter Marence who is listed as Mrs. Nap Derocher. I also know a man descended from Exord's sister Mrs. Francis Desair. He is very interested in family history as well. I'll let him know about you if you like.
I have some information but I need to do some more digging on it. You see on his death certificate, Exord's parents are listed as Joseph Lavalier Marie Caravette both of Canada. However, I couldn't find a marriage record for them. I only found one Joseph married at approximately the right time and he married an Emerence Duchet. The good news with this is that I was told that Marence was named after Exord's mother so this other marriage is a better fit. But, I do need to do some more digging. If you have a copy of your grandmother's death certificate, how do they list her parents? Also, did your family stay in Northern Wisconsin? Mine is mostly still in Rice Lake.
Anyway, if the marriage record for Joseph Emerence is the valid one, I have a few more generations of Lavalier parents. I figured I'd go back as far as I could with that Joseph as he seemed a pretty good bet and there weren't a lot of Lavallieres (as they appear in the index).
Let me know if you would like the other information that I have and I can either post it here or send it to you directly -- whichever you prefer.
In the meantime good luck I look forward to hearing from you again!
Sorry...

Joann -- Sorry I'm just responding to this now. My family tree work has been a comedy of errors for a long time now. I do this hit & miss -- when I have time. So... I'll do my best to respond. If you need to contact me, it may be best to email me directly at tfparo@aol.com.
Marence Lavalier 1893-1956 md. Napoleon Derocher 1889-1946. These were my great-grandparents.
Marence's parents were Louise Roberge 1859-1952 & Exord (Ed.) Lavalier 1853-1917.
Exord's parents were listed on his death certificate as Joseph & Marie Caravette of Canada but our famiily was told that Marence was named after his mother. Also, I can't find any record of a Marie Caravette anywhere but I did find a marriage for an Emerence Duchette and a Joseph Lavalliere which occurred at about the right time so... I don't have a mother's name listed for Exord -- I'd like something a little more concrete. I've done a little poking around though & come up empty -- just a matter of time I suppose.
Like I said, email me if you need/want anything else & I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
Tanya - Tfparo@aol.com

I am searching for information on geneology from that part of my family. It seems the names are not always what I was told. If you have any information of the family tree from her family (father Exord or mother Louise Robarge) please get in touch with me. This is all new to me so I have a lot to learn.
Jeannie, this is wonderful. Do you happen to know who your GGrandmothers parents were? This is what Ive been looking for for months. I remember my mother saying their names were Mary and Joseph, but dont know if that was from the Lavaliere side or Campbell side.

Jeannie, there must be a connection. Do you know the names of any of your Grandmothers sisters or brothers? When and where was she born? Do you know who your GGrandparents were? Lots of questions. Hope we can come up with something.

Yes, Edward was my Grandmothers brother.I have his obit. Do you by any chance know who his parents were? I keep coming up with different names, but so far have concluded that they may be Joseph Lavaliere and Mary Marrence. Tonya has done more research on this than I have. Mary Marrence is the name of my Grandmothers mother in her guest book at her funeral. So, I guess I have to go by that so far. Welcome, and happy hunting.

Tonya, I spoke to my sister last night and she has the guest book from my Grandmothers funeral (Virginia Lavaliere) and in there her maiden name is Mary Merrence. This is getting confusing. I dont know why she is the only one who had this info. Anyway, I would appreciate any info you might have on any Lavaliere generations, and if you could, I would like to see your copy of Williams obit. My sister also told me that most of the records in that area of Wis. burned. Thanks, Yvonne.

Yvonne, I'll send you an email in a few minutes but wanted to clear something up. Your Ed is Exord. He used Ed as a nickname -- it probably was easier on everybody since the name is unusual. I just wanted to post this part in case some other branch happens along this site and is confused too. Sorry about that. Tanya

Tanya, this is great!! I dont have an obit from Exord. So, any more info you have will be greatly appreciated. I have an obit for Ed who was born in Quebec 1853 and one for his son,William who was born 1890. I dont have a scanner yet, but if you want me to copy these and send them to you let me know. Please email me at yholthaus@aol.com. I was born in Rice Lake and still have numerous relatives there, but dont know them all. There will be a family reunion this summer for the Campbell side ( Joseph) so hopefully I will find out more then. There is no one left on my mothers side of the family. I never knew my GGrandmothers anme before. Its nice to hear what is is. Thank you so much. Hope to hear from you soon. Yvonne

Tanya, it really looks like we have something. Im so excited. Ill give you what else I have so you can compare. My Grandmother, Virginia had a brother named Ed. The obituary says he was born in Bernard, Quebec in 1853. In 1887 he was married to Louise Roberge, then moved to
Rice Lake, Wis. if that helps. Yes, Im sure my Grandmother would be the only one by the name of Mrs. Joe Campbell in Spring Brook, wis. My grandmother, at the time of her death, was survived by 3 sons. Arthur, and Edward of rice Lake and John of Foxboro, Wis. 3 daughters, Mrs. M.L. Paradise of Milwaukee, Lydia Hess of Springbrook and my mother, Cecilia correll Rice Lake. She is as far back as I can find.

my grandmothers maiden name was virginia lavalier, im almost certain she was born in Canada. I dont know when she came to the U.S or when she married Joseph Campbell. Some of their children were, Lydia, Mary, Cecelia, John, Art, Joe and Im sure there were more that I cant remember. They came to Wisc. in the early 1900s or late 1800s. My mother, Cecelia, was born in Couderay, Wisc. in 1906, the youngest. Any info before this?
