Thank you for sharing! Karl and Hermine are my husband's ggrandparents. I can't imagine their strength, it had to be their faith in God that got them through the death of four children. You mentioned that you had a photo of Hermine. If you are willing to share her image or any family images, I would be so grateful and excited to see them! My email is l_raschke@hotmail.com Sincerely, Lorie

I don't know if you still look at this but my grt grandfather Karl Laufer was married to Auguste Marie Hinz and she died from intestinal fever. Less than nine months later he married your relative Hermine Rohrig on 5-7-1867 born in Berlin, Prussia. They were married by Pastor Wunders at St Pauls Lutheran Church Chgo, Il. I have her picture. They had a lot of children. The last one I have listed is Emilie born 11-14-1888. I believe I got all the childrens name from the church records. Four of their children died during the black diptheria epedemic. Karl came to Am in 12-14-1854 on the ship Hopen Daufrin I believe. He taught at a lot of Lutheran Schools I have the names of all and a bunch of facts about him. If you want to contact me you'll have to e mail me at dukesally1@comcast.net

I'm looking for descendants or relatives of Jacob and Frimed Laufer, my great-great-great-great grandparents. They lived in Brzezany, Austria (now Ukraine) and Frimed was a midwife there. To my knowledge, they had two daughters: Beile (my great-great-great-grandmother) who married Michael Thaler, and Dvora who married Israel Jonas Fersching. They may have had other children that I'm not aware of.

There is a complete record of the Camilowitz coming to the US from hamburg in April 1900.

Are you related to either of them?

I am looking for any family or any friends who knew Matla Ajzenberg in Lodz Poland. She was married to Schmerl Laufer and they had 3 children. It is known they were in the LOdz ghetto till 1944 in POland A AND THE HUSBAND WAS taken to Auschwitz concentration camp and then sent to Dachau where it is known he died there in January 48. Matla might have gone to Auschwitz with the 3 young children if they were still alive then but no traice of her has ever been found. Somewhere - someplace there must be someone who knows about her or is related to her as siblings, etc or nieces. she was supppodely taken to Auschwitz in late i944 with the husband and children. there is no register for her anywhere maybe in the usa or Canada or elsewhere someone who is related to her will help us. I hope so. Thanks

Hello Russell, My mother is Barbara Laufer Schultz. She is Butch's 9th child. I do not know how accurate the stories are about the indian heritage, but my mother remembers family coming from the reservation, opening their trunk and my grandma Leona filling up the trunk. The story that my mother and grandmother told me was that one of our ancestors from Butch's side was an Sioux Indian Chief who married a German bride. I had always heard great, great, great grandfather, again not sure how accurate this is. Thank you for responding back to my post. My mom does not know many of her cousins from the Laufer side. My mother-in-law is helping me with the geneology from the Laufer and Ganns side. My maternal grandparents.

I'm curious to learn more about the Iowa ancestors with Sioux Indian heritage. Aloysius Laufer's parents were Charles E Laufer and Theresa Erschens. I am directly descended from a brother of Charles E Laufer and a sister of Theresa Erschens. It would appear that the Laufers and Erschenses were pretty close! (lots of Laufers marrying Erschenses, along with Erschenses marrying Hovens).

Anyways, my records don't have any Sioux Indian heritage, but I would love to learn more...perhaps it's true!

Please let me know if you have anything more about this...

Thank you.

Thankyou for your reply! Since I have posted this I have some new info. These very well maybe one and the same. My cousin was able to obtain census from 1910 and there is a
Charles and Hermine Laufer listed. Charles is 70 yrs and Hermine is 66, married 43 yrs. They had 14 children and 4 are living at that time. Also my aunt remembers that Amelia or Emelia had some sisters that had remained in the Chicago area. Me and some of my cousins have done some looking into history and it seems that the Laufer family lived in the Chicago area during the "Great Fire of 1870" We have looked at the census reports for those time periods also and found that they had lived in the area affected by the fire. I haven't had much time lately to work on this as I'm working on my house. But I will be checking quite often for your reply.

There is a William J.Laufer listed in Rochester, Monroe Co., NY. He ran the Ridge Hotel. He was 2nd husband of Minnie Sibyl (Grant) (Gordon). There was no children born in this marriage that I can find. Minnie Sibyl did have a son by Gordon his name was John Henry Gordon. I don't know if this is the same William that u might be looking for, but hope it is and that this will help. This is all the info I have on this person.
Linda

well i have papers prove my relationship to the laufers and they were from austria which is what i was always told. I now now the names arent the same anymore. my family is listed at the statue of liberty for when and on what ship they arrived. i was looking to find relatives who we had lost touch with or hadnt known about. i may eventually also look to visit the area that my ancestors came from in croatia. as i stated earlier there are still some relative who know more information that i do not know for certain such as the exact town as you are asking for.there is a family bible but i do not have it. as the anna miller costa branch has it currently. but i could access it if i needed to get some information.

Peter ('The Shoemaker') Laufer

I am a fifth generation granddaughter of Christian ("The Pioneer") Lawfer, who came with his family from Germany in the 1750's, to Northampton Co., PA. Christian Lawfer had 5 sons and 5 daughters, most of whom moved on to Westmoreland County, PA shortly after their arrival from Gemany, but leaving a sole son, Peter ("The Shoemaker") Laufer behind. Peter remained in Northampton his entire life. He was born 18 Oct 1752 in Pennsylvania. He married Magdalena Susanna Grosher of Westmoreland, PA on 22 Aug 1753. He died on 21 Jul 1830. Husband and wife are both buried in the Old Stone Church, Northampton Co., PA (near Siegfried's, PA, Allen Township). [The spelling of the surname changes several times--Laufer, Lawfer, Lauffer, etc. The names listed above are correctly spelled].

What I am most interested in documenting, but at which I have been completely unsuccessful, is Peter Laufer's participation in the Revolutionary War. There is a 1906 Lawfer Family History that indicates not only his being "too small to bear arms" in the war, but also that as a consequence of his stature, he became a shoemaker for Washington's Army. The DAR, however, has no evidence of his having been a Revolutionary War patriot and I'm beginning to wonder if the shoemaker story isn't an old family myth!

If anyone knows of any sources for continuing my research on this individual, with particular regard to any involvement he may have had in the Revolutionary War (but also in more general terms), I would appreciate it. My e-mail address is: sarahill@netdoor.com. Thanks.
