Re: Lash lines in the south - originating PA to NC

Do you know the names of any of the Stuttes that stayed in PA. My second great grandfather was Joseph Stutts, born 1/31/1821 and he died on 9/2/1862. He lived in the Juniata Valley. He was a railroad man and I have not found a Civil War record on him but I know the railroad men were kept busy transporting, men, weapons, and rations. He married a Hannah Shrawder in 1849 and they had 4 children. William Lucian, George Joseph, Martha Ellen, and Randolph P. I have all of the information on the children on down to me. Joseph is buried in Otterbein Cemetery in East Salem, PA, close to where he lived. There is a whole row of Stuttes and it has been suggested that Catherine Stutts, who is buried next to him is his mother. She was married to a John Stutts-no info on him. Try as I might I cannot find a record to Connect them. Can you help or point me in the right direction (the Cemetery is of no help). I leave ancestry on 11/4 My email is car.stone@comcast.net. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you, Carolyn Stutts Stone

Hi LewLash, I have been trying to find a way to contact you about some photos you have, sorry, not about the Lash family...
I saw that you have a photo of Minnie Meier and her husband Francis W. O'Neill, as he was my cousin (my 3rd great aunt's son). My 3rd great aunt was Mary J. Connolly, and I have been hunting for years for more information about her family.
I would love to see the photos!
I'm not sure what your connection is to this family, but maybe you would be interested in what I have found about her brother John E. Connolly's family.
Could you send me a message or reply here?
Thanks so much!
JAMES O.LASH Brick Wall!

I need HELP! James O. Lash This guy I have been researching for years and need ANYONE who may know the where bouts of this man. James was the son of George & Emma Davis Lash of Reading,Pa. He was born August 1884 (via 1900 Census) at this time he is residing with his sister
Elizabeth Lash Good wife of John C. Good and their children Horace,Elsie,& Herman P.Good. At this time James was 15 years old AND lived with them as his parents were deceased. After 1900 some
time he moved to his brother, George Cyrus Lash of Hamburg, Berks Co. Pa. (due to sister Elizabeth
Good divorced her husband). The family of George C.Lash told me (they were told) he was tired of being a Driver for a local Funeral Director in Hamburg and wanted to move. As told one day came home, packed his bag and left and they thought he went to Michigan State. That is all they knew! That is all I know of him except I did find a voters list where a James O. Lash signed up to vote.
Was this him? I have reached a Brick Wall for him. I was told this because a James Lash bought a Pipe Factory in Berks County from Michigan in 1998 and when here he had said his Grandfather was from the area.( In the Reading Eagle Newspaper) Was this James O.???? I need help finding this James and ANYONE that knows anything, I welcome your emails!!!!! Contact me and will keep you posted for sure! Email
hslj1952@yahoo.com Thank You so much. I am a Find A Grave member and Ancestry as well.
I hunted and hunted. Help me please,,,,,, Be Well Harold Lash

I am related through Ann and this is driving me crazy. I would love to know where there is any documented proof of the Onstott thing with her. I would love to see that as well simply because I like to see documented proof and haven't found that either.. I have gone through the various Lash's and other variations of that name to find an Ann born the right time to no avail. So that's where I am at. Was Ann her middle name..was she married yet another time to a Lash? Hopefully these and other questions will be answered on the next episode of of "Finding Your Missing Lash" Sorry I am silly it's after 4 am.

I, too, am confused and at a dead end regarding her parents and siblings. I am beginning to think her name, Ann, may be an abbreviation (perhaps for Susannah??) or her middle name. My email address is: rsrudder@comcast.net She is the second wife of John Ihrig. I am related to John through his first wife. (When his first wife died, he married his widowed sister-in-law, Ann (Lash) Onstott. She brought 3 daughters and 1 son into the family. As you know, together John and Ann had 11 more children for a total of his, hers and ours of 20 children. ALL twenty reached adulthood and married and had children of their own. Remarkable for the age.)

Thanks, ZlaticaBeca. Since this last post I made very slight headway. I will spare you the details. But I have found out that she is buried as Matke Malgozata. So think her original name was Malgozata or something like that, I am not sure if who ever was responsible for the burial knew the correct spelling. Since I found the name Malgozata (or maybe Malgorzata), I looked for any Malgozata Lash who came to the US and went to PA. I found a few Malgozata Las, one of which had a father named Stanley from PA who retrieved her from the ship she arrived on, and the towns listed was definitely a mining town. But I cannot find any records anywhere of a Stanley Las or Lash, I contacted the societies that have some archived records for some of the mining towns. No luck there. There was also some Kensaks (varying spellings) that looked like they were going to nearby mining towns, but since again all the ages and birthdates are not the same I cannot be sure. Since I did verify that my one aunt was born in Chester, I assume all the kids were, I know there was a Polish church in Chester, St. Hedwigs.

I have been wondering if this is her: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/JFNK-336

This whole family really has me at a loss.
I have only just seen your earlier message concerning Lash family in PA. My family is the Stutts family who stayed in Pa when others migrated south. I can go back to my gg grandfather Joseph Stutts born between 1821-1825, possibly in PA but it is also possible he was born in Germany. Joseph married a Hannah Shrawder in PA in 1849. Do you have any mention of them in your papers?
Carolyn car.stone@comcast.net

My particular Stutts family, with the exception of my dad (to D.C.), an uncle(to Colorado) and 2 aunts (to California) remained in PA. If Joseph Stutts DID move to NC he had divorced his wife and left 4 children behind. Does this sound familiar?
Carolyn

80th Swickard Family Reunion

Hello Kinfolk!

Well, it's that time again! Hard to believe that another year has gone by since we enjoyed the last Swickard Reunion.

The 80th annual Swickard Family Reunion will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Austin Lake Park, near Richmond, Jefferson Co., Ohio. We try to sit down for our meal by 1:00 p.m however, I will try to be there by 11:30 for set up purposes. The reunion gathers descendants of siblings, Martin Swickard and Elizabeth Saltsman of Jefferson County, Eve Lash of Stark County and Daniel Swickard Jr. of Franklin County. The first reunion was held in 1924 on the old Martin M. Swickard farm, which is not farrm from Austin Lake. Over 400 people attended. The second reunion was held 10 years later. Thereafter, a reunion was held annually to the present day.

Please bring a covered dish, a dessert, a drink and a table setting. THIS YEAR DELICIOUS FRIED CHICKEN WILL BE PROVIDED BY THE REUNION COMMITTEE. This is possible because of the money we save by emailing the invitations instead of mailing them using the post service. A white elephant sale will be held to cover the cost of the campground rental, and those attending are asked to bring an item for the auction or contribute to a collection. Please keep in mind that Austin Lake charges us, $3.50 for all persons 12 and older, $3.00 for children 3 to 11 and children under 3 are free. In order to break even, the white elephant sale and/or collection must collect enough to pay the cost of admission for each reunion attendee.

For information regarding Austin Lake Park, please visit www.austinlakepark.com

This is my third attempt to send this invitation primarily by email. If you received more than one email, please let me know and I will edit the email list to eliminate duplicates. If you know of any family members who did not receive this email and would like to be added to the email list, please send me the email address. We are trying to eliminate the cost of printing invitations and postage completely.

Please spread the word among your immediate and extended family! I would love to make the reunion a larger event and get many many people involved.

I hope to see all of you at our family reunion!

Re: Obits-Philip Lash Sr. & Wife 1800s

I appreciated seeng these obits. However there is still some confusion. The 1850 Federal census records, Derry Township, Mifflin County, two men named PHILIP LASH, one born about 1809, with a wife Elizabeth and several children. The other is single in 1850, born about 1828, and is working for SIMON and MARGARET KREBBS. I we then dealing with a sequence of grandfather, father and grandson all named PHILIP LASH?

The Third PHILIP LASH (1828 - 1895) seems to be the husband of MARGARET CARPENTER (1834 - 1919); they are in the 1860 census for Mifflin County and moved to St. Joseph County, Michigan about 1869. Their marrige is recorded on page 185 of Seymour D. Carpenter, Genealogical Notes on the Carpenter Family. Margaret's mother JANE McCLINTIC (McCLINTOCK) grew up in Mifflin County. The Mifflin county birth (17 October 1852) and baptism (19 April 1853) of their known son JAMES SYLVESTER LASH is recorded in Mifflin County. I can detail many children and grandchildren in Michigan.

I would appreciate thoughts on the identity of the parents of this third PHILIP LASH.

Esther Lash Gabriel is a grandaughter of Jacob & Elizabeth by their son William born. 1785 died. "on a trip home" in Belmont Co. OH. He had moved to Athens Co. OH with his family. As far as I know Esther was the oldest child of William and Elizabth Price Lash. Look for the Dorothy Lathrop Genealogy of this family published in 1937.

Roger L. Lash

JACOB LASH

I am doing DAR research and need someone to provide a link. My great-great grandmother was an Esther Lash, born in Belmont Co., Ohio, 1807 and married Basil(sp) Gabriel in 1824 in Athens Co., Ohio. Can anyone provide documentation that Esther is a daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth Yost Lash? The dates and locations all seem plausible, but I lack definitive evidence. Thanks in advance!!!!

Jacob Lash b 18 Mar 1776
In the records of the Stecher-Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Washington County, PA I find a Jacob and Elizabeth Lesch who had three children baptized there: John Philip b 1 Oct 1783; William b 19 Oct 1785; and Elizabeth b 1 Aug 1787.

In several Ancestry.com trees, I find reference to their having twin sons, Peter and Jacob, b 18 Mar 1776. Peter's family seems pretty well documented, but Jacob's does not. There is a marriage record for Jacob and a Catherine Youst in 1797; I suspect this could be Catharine Yohe, d/o Michael Yohe of Washington Co.; family lore says she married a "Leash" and Jacob seems to be the only possibility. I find references to Jacob's having died in 1819 in Belmont Co, OH. The 1820 census shows a Catharine Lash in Belmont Co as head of household, with one male 10-15, 2 females under 10, and one female 16-25.

Unfortunately, there are also Yousts in Washington County at about the same time, so my speculation is somewhat dangerous. The name Youst does not show up in the Stecher-Mt. Zion church records, though.

Any information that might help sort this out would be appreciated.

Mike Yohe, g3gs/o Michael Yohe

Margaretta Lash-Kensak

I am seeking info on the following person:

Margaretta Lash/Las - born approx 1888. Census states she either came from Poland or Hungary. According to census she came to US in 1900 or 1901. Appears to have come to Pennsylvania. Appears to have gotten married at the age of 16, in 1904. Found census records of her living in Clifton, NJ and in Lincoln Park, NJ with her husband John and the following children: Jacob, Annie, Frank, Florence, Stephanie and Stanley. While in Clifton John was a shoemaker with his own shop, in Lincoln Park, John appeared to own multiple farms.

Seeking information on parents and siblings, and information about how and when she emigrated to the US. Also seeking information about when and where she married my great-grandfather John, in Pennsylvania or in New Jersey.

I also would love information on my great-grandfather John Kensak, how and where and when he came to the US, and his family too.

Lastly, I am also seeking information about whatever happened to her children Jacob and Annie, since they seem to have disappeared. I believe the story goes that Annie did pass away at a young age, but I cannot find any record of Jacob.

Thanks everyone.

Your David Lash is also my David Lash. I also have the info that he was one of the handful of Americans killed at the Battle of New Orleans (Jan 8, 1815) while serving under Andrew Jackson. Your Joseph Lash is also my 3x great grandfather, married to Barbara Funk. Their youngest child, Daniel, was my great great grandfather. He was born in 1776. I am in possession of a spinning wheel which belonged to Barbara. It is also my understanding that one of David's sons became a Captain in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. I have no record of his action, survival or death, unit to which he belonged and so on. I assume he must have been from Kentucky. My aunt who researched our family dealt (unfortunately!) except casually only with our direct line. I'd love it if you could fill in some blanks!

Hello,
I grew up in Aurora, Illinois, and had a grandmother whose name was Mae Elisabeth Lash. My father was her son. He also had a half brother who apparently passed away when he was a child, and a half sister who passed away some time in the 1970's. It was sometime around 1966 when I remember Mae passing away in Aurora, but, was buried in Rock Island, Illinois??.. Growing up, as children we really didn't know any of the other relatives. My father, who had the middle name of Campbell, was born in 1916. He passed away in 1993.
I just happened to google her name and saw this post. I would love to know more about their life and who she was married to, as I have no knowledge of any of my dad's relatives.. He didn't shared information about his father,as Mae was not married when I knew her as a child. But, I remember him speaking of a uncle that he was close to when he was younger.
