Laquay and Laquey

I have found two distinct families the Laquey family and the Laquay family.

The Laquey family can be traced back to JJA Laquey who was born in VA/KY in 1800. As of right now, his parents and any extended family such as siblings, aunts, uncles, etc. are unknown.

The Laquay family seems to have several branches of their own. One branch possibly begins in New Jersey (about 1826), moving to New York, and eventually the Michigan area. This branch of the family has ties to Ellen Van Tyre Laquay Hamilton and Peter Laquay. I have found other Laquays as early as the 1800 census for Pennsylvania.

I'm hoping to find a connection between these families. My relatives come from the JJA Laquey line. The family lore is that 2 or 3 brothers came to the United States from France. I believe that one of these brothers may have been JJA's father. It is possible that one or two other brothers may be the families in the Laquay line.

I would be interested to know if anyone from the Laquay line has ever heard this type of story spoken about their ancestors. If so, then it might just be possible that the Laqueys and the Laquays are related. I have found many Laquays in French records dating back to the 1600's. It would be interesting if there was some way to trace our Laquey/Laquay lines all the way back to France.

Sincerely,

Jessica
