Anthony J. LaPaglia, age 89,
of Erie,CO,PA,
passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2012,
at St. Vincent Health Center surrounded by his loving family.
Anthony was born April 9, 1922 in Erie,PA,
the son of the late Frank and Cologera (Lily) LoFresco LaPaglia. A lifelong resident of Erie, Anthony was a graduate of Erie's Tech Memorial High School. Following graduation he served as a corporal with the US Army during WW II. In 1985, he retired from Erie's General Electric where he started work as a machinist and later went on to work as an inspector. Anthony was a member of the GE Quarter Century club, and was also a former member of the Gem City Outdoorsman club. He attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and belonged to the Blessed Sacrament Ushers organization. Anthony was extremely proud of this country, and of having had the chance to serve it with the Army during the Second World War. But his greatest accomplishment was his family, and he loved the chance to get together with family and friends on special occasions and holidays. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Frances D'Arrigo, Mary Metzler, Sally Kowalewski, Mildred Campanella, and Rose Gabel; along with two brothers, Angelo and Joseph LaPaglia. Anthony is survived by his wife, Mary Michalczik LaPaglia; and two daughters, Karen LaPaglia of Fairview and Gayla DeMarco and her husband, Kevin, also of Fairview. He is survived by a sister, Jennie Ferraro of Erie; along with several nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Holly. Friends are invited to call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St., Sunday from 2-5 & 7-9 p.m. and are invited to attend Prayer Services there Monday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church. Entombment with military honors will be in Mary, Queen of Peace Mausoleum. Memorials may be made to the Erie City Mission, 1023 French St., Erie, PA 16501 or to the ANNA Shelter, 1555 East 10th St., Erie, PA 16511.
