I am trying to find out what happened to my ancestor, Emeline/Emmeline Lanphear. She was born in New York around 1839, and is shown living with her parents (Joseph Hiscox Lanphear and Nancy McFarland) in Pitcairn, NY on the 1850 census. On the 1860 census, she is still in Pitcairn but married to a Thomas I Blanchard and with two children. I cannot find a record of any of the four of them after that year. Any help would be appreciated!

If there are any of you that have had that test and not made your results public, we would like to hear from you, here.

From the results made public at Family Tree dna, I have determined that that we have a LAMPHERE, a LAMPHIER and a LANPHAR, that all have the same identical dna, further substantiating m y theory that we are most all related and are one family. Of course there are aberrations, probably caused by some unknown break in the chain of fathers. I know of one such instance where the mother, a Lamphear, had a son by a person other than a Lamphear. They were never married, thus the mother allowed the child to live as a Lamphear.
I know also there are several at FTdna that have not made their results public, nor have they posted email addresses to contact them.

Women ! this would make a nice present for you brother, father, husband or son.

For the record I am R-DF23

I have read that it is of French origin. Thomas Lamphier, a French Huguenot fled from his homeland in the Provice of Languedoc in 1572. I have also read that possibly the name Lamphere is French for "precious soul." It once may have been spelled as "L'Ame-Fiere". Google search engine has a lot of information.

Michael is the only name I have come across. I don't know who lived here in the past. Might check with the city title office to see if they have records of previous owners.
The house was built in 1935, but I've found various items behind the plaster walls that are not from that time. Not sure how they got there.

Hi, its already scanned and on my pc. I was afraid of something happening to my copy.
I also scanned the back which states the names and also where this copy originated.
I am still curious as to the mystery of Susan Lee. Is she the mother of the first 3 siblings or the last two (one of which is my great grandmother, Addie Lanphear (Lanphier)). Family history. state that Luke Steadman Lanphier was married 3 times and that Addie and Charlie are the offspring of the last marriage. But the photo contradicts this stating that Edwin and Addie were the result of the 2nd marriage. I tend to believe the latter
Anyways If it is true that Charles and Addie shared the same mother than I have some interesting info regarding her.
Not proven yet.
Let me know if you work out who's mother is who
I'll send a copy of the picture and the back to your email addy.
Thanks,
Georgia Hanna
Please let me know if you are still interested.

I am the 2ggrandson of Asa Lanfear, who was the brother of Selah, one of the founders of Homer Twp, Will county, Ill and father of the Joshua you mentioned. The Barnet Cemetery where many of the Lanfear's were buried is about 8 miles from where I was born (Joliet). I have the complete inscriptions of this cemetery and others in Homer township including Selah Lanfear, Sylvester Munson and others.

I have much info about this family--Will be happy to share this with you.
I've been working on the Irish Lamphier-Lanphiers for the past few months. I've accumulated a fair amount of information and I've organized what I could, thanks to the numerous postings on message boards and at World Trees. Be that as it may, I've gotten down to 24 trees. One with over 300 people in it, down to as few as several with one lone soul. I'm certain that many of these should tie together, but I'm lacking that one last point to do it. Perhaps you can supply that information. If you recognize any of the following, please contact me and we can see what each other has for information.

1.
The parents of Squire Lamphere

In the matter of the parents of Squire Lamphere, I've been doing a little in depth research. Bear in mind county boundries change over time as do town and village names. We know Squire was said to have been born in 1829 in Coopertown, Herkimer county. I felt it reasonable to assume that is was possible for the family to remain in the area for at least a short period of time after the birth. I went to the 1830 census of Herkimer and found 7 Lampheres of various spellings. In Salisbury were Merritt, Alpheus jr. and James all with young male children. Also there were Alpheus sr. and William who had no young males. Ransom in West Brunswick (now Ohio) also had one young male. Looking at things geographically none of these places were anywhere near Cooperstown (now in Otsego county). Raymond however was in Schuyler (probably Lake Schuyler) only a stones throw from Cooperstown, had 2 males under 5 and 2 males 5-10.
My information showed only 3 males with his first wife Sophie Rose, whom he married about 1820. She died in 1832 in Lk Schuyler.possibly after the birth of twins. Sons Jerome b 1823 married Louisa Pike, son Lorenzo b ca1825, married an Irena. son Judson b 1827 married Emma Streeter. As you can see, one son is not documented. His second wife Mary Eades, bore him 5 more sons and one daughter, after 1836.

My assumption is that Raymond and Sophie are the parents of this mysterious Squire. Is there anyone in that area that can search town or village birth records? Possibly church records.

Jack Lamphier
JJL1329@yahoo.com

South Dakota Lanphear

Michael Bruce Lanphear-
While remodeling my 1935 house, I found this name hand-written on a paper. There is a copyright date of 1950 on the page, so I am not sure when Michael's name would have been written on it.
The family must have lived in northeast South Dakota at one time. I've searched for recent records of Lanphears in this area, that may be connected to Michael, but did not find anything. I also do not know any of the previous owners of this house.
I am hoping to find a link to Michael's family and, if a family member wishes, I would like to return what I've found to the Lanphear family.
Sinerely,
Susan

Hi Harold,

Hopefully you just got my other response as well.

I'm not sure about Lanfears by last name on the Mayflowers. My understanding is that it only journeyed to America twice?

However, both the mother and father of Joshua Lanfear's (1771) maternal grandmother Deborah Soule Cadman were separately descended from original Mayflower passengers. Going back to Joshua Lanfear's (1771) family tree on familysearch.org:

George Soule (on Mayflower)-George Soule-William Soule-Deborah Soule Cadman- Sarah Cadman Lanfear-Joshua Lanfear

Mary Wentworth Brewster & William Brewster (both on Mayflower) Johnathan Brewster-Hannah Brewster Soule-Deborah Soule Cadman--Sarah Cadman Lanfear-Joshua Lanfear

I've got a lot more information on the Woodworths (Joshua Lanfear's wife Elizabeth's family). Also, you might have it already, but there are some absolutely fascinating royal connections through a line of Sarah Cadman Lanfear's father
Richard Cadman. I'll temporarily post my e-mail separately.

Sincerely,

Melissa

Harold,
I went to visit my great aunt Dorothy Wilson in Sun City Az a couple of months back and she gave me 50 or more pages of research she has collected over the years on the Lanfear family from family members and also LDS research.
There are some pages that are duplicated, the ones with the hand written corrections made on them are from Herb Wilson (Dorothy's son) from info he knew or researched.
Dorothy's mother is Cora Lanfear, who's parents are George Washington and Ruth Lanfear.
I would love to get any info and pictures that you have also. The only picture I have is from a button from the 1892 worlds fair in Chicago.
I will have to email you the files. They are in adobe format and I can't get them to send with this post. Let me know how to send them to you.
Cheers
Bob Williamson

I am researching my great grandfather John Alexander Kirby. He had a sister Julia Kirby who married a Lanphear. All I know about her whereabouts is that when John died in about 1940 his sister Julia was listed as being in Topeka, KS. Her name was spelled (Lanther) in one paper and (Jamphear) in another paper. In John's family photo album there is a picture of Clarence Lanphear as a toddler. He has to be the son of Julia Kirby Lanphear. I found a 1910 & 1920 census that looks like Julia's husband was Arba F. Lanphear, born in Wisconsin. Arba, Julia & Clarence were listed in both census'. Would this possibly be your family?

I don't know if this will help you out any on looking for the Lanfears coming from the Homer township but this is what I have found just looking a little. My grandfather is still alive Charles F Lanfear and I confirmed some of it with him too.

There were actually 2 Joshua's, one was the grandfather of the other, and that might be where you are having some confusion. I am actually a decendent of the Lanfear's from Will county and many of my relatives are still there or buried there. My grandfather is Charles F. Lanfear, Father is Charles W. Lanfear and then myself is Charles R. Lanfear.

Hopefully you can read this file that I have attached but if you want to e-mail feel free to at charles.lanfear@siemens.com or charles.lanfear@us.army.mil. The Siemens account is the best to reach me.
Kind Regards,
Charles Lanfear
Susan Lamphire born 1810

I was told I might have more luck if I posted on this board, so am trying again. Susan Lamphire was born March 30, 1810 in German Flats, NY. Does anyone know anything more about this family? I know she married Joseph B Eddy and I have their children. Her parents MAY have been named James and Hannah, but I have no other information on them, and neither James nor Hannah shows in the list of Joseph and Susan's children. I have located a James Lamphier in Warren Twp, Herkimer County, NY in 1810 who has 2 young female and 1 young male in the house, but I don't know if this is my 4G grandfather or not.

Joseph Eddy died in Lee County, Illinois in 1878 but I don't have a death date or place for Susan, either. Any help or clues would be most appreciated.

Janice

Lanfear's on the 2nd Mayflower

In a letter from my great grandfather, he relates some verbal family history that the family originally was "French and Holland Dutch". Other nototations indicate they came over on "the Mayflower". Clearly, records show they did not come over on The Mayflower of pilgrim fame, but apparently there were several ships following also named the "Mayflower"

Does anyone have any knowledge of specifically the Lanfear's arrival on the 2nd, or 3rd, etc Mayflower or even any information on these ships? I'm unable to find any clues beyond the fact these ships make trips to America.

Thanks much.

Jack,
I'm open to any ideas you may have going in either direction. Right now, I'm in the process of converting all my family history files to TreeMaker so I can get it on the web and sent to others [why I didn't do this last year...don't ask] I'm putting trees together as I get new info from both ends, at least where I think they merge. Hopefully, this will provide some additional new leads. I got a new one last night in an unexpected place; Texas.

Thanks for everything so far, Harold

Does anyone have any info on Joshua Lanfear; born in _____, New York about 1825 and married to Mary Ann Waters, born in England abt 1828. Joshua was living in Homer Township, Will County, Illinois in 1870, but I'm unable to track back from there.

Joshua was my Great Grandfather and I have a picture of he and Mary Ann Waters which I will gladly share. Joshua was the father of Frank, Fred, Franz, Zilfha, Fayete, George Washington Lanfear (my Grandfather), Nellie and Caroline. I have a fair amount of information and pictures on George W. which I would be happy to share if anyone has interest.

Harold Lanfear

Jack,
Thanks much for the response. I also found the Daniel/Olive Hall connection and the only problem I've found is that "their" Joshua was born in Preston, CT and "my
" Joshua is showing 'New York' as his birthplace on the 1870 Will County Ill, census and others. Its quite possibly an error on the census and I'm tried to trace back other pieces through records for Joshua's children and well as further research into Daniel/Olive.

The whole family pretty much disappeared on paper around that time, so its quite possible that there is a documentation error. I have some leads/potential leads on Joshua's children and would be happy to share anything I have. Thanks much for the help and response.

Harold

Wow; that's apparently the link I've been looking for and unable to find. I took a fairly quick look and still can't find any connection to Selah and Mary as Joshua's parents.

Where did you find the connection please? I'd like to include that in my tree.

I sort of thought there might be a link here at one time because the timing/location was about right Selah's father was a Josuha; but I could never make the connection.

I owe you for that one; Thanks very much.
