Joan Lanphear of Sherwood Forest and previously of Bowie, Maryland died of progressive supranuclear palsy Oct. 17, 2005 at her home after a nine-year illness.
She was 82.
A homemaker, Mrs. Lanphear was born May 4, 1923 in Mishawaka, Indiana, and attended Indiana University.
She was a member of the Christian Community Presbyterian Church of Bowie and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity.
She enjoyed gardening, playing tennis, crabbing and volunteering.
On Sept. 14, 1946, she married Robert Lee "Bob" Lanphear, who died Nov. 28, 2003.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas Lanphear of Hampstead and John Lanphear of Philadelphia, Pa.; two daughters, Ann Lanphear of College Park, MD and Jill Lanphear of Ashburn, Virginia; two sisters, Rebecca Cook of Mishawaka and Mary Lamlein of Toledo, Ohio; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be Nov. 2 at 2 p.m. at the Sherwood Forest Clubhouse.
