I see where some are working Enoch Lankford / Langford born 1799 South Carolina or as most people show born btw 1791-1799. I use the 1799 birth estimate for Enoch based on 2 of 3 census records. And we all know census records are correct. LOL Enoch and Rachael McQuilliams / McWilliams are my 3Great Grandparents. Their daughter Nancy married William James and so on down to me. For some reason after all my years of searching, I see people using Eli and Sarah Langford / Lankford as Enoch parents. I am fairly sure we are talking about the same person because of Enoch Lankford’s marriage to Rachael and death location. Wondering where this is comes from I have to ask the question, where did and what did these people see that made them document Enoch father as Eli Langford abt 1735 and mother Sarah Unknown abt 1735. Not saying it’s not possible. Base on Sarah birth of 1735, she would be age 56 at one end of the birth range and 64 on the other to be Enoch mother. Eli and Sarah Langford/Lankford may be grandparent or family but I just have a hard time believing they are parents. Who is the question? What are your thoughts and findings?
As information and to help, I found my line to use the name Lankford. Looking at courthouses in Mississippi, deeds and other records use Lankford for Enoch direct family. However Langford is also used there by those who I think are Enoch siblings and or family. Because of records transcribers and how they wanted to write it down and many of the Lankford/Langford did not read or write they left it to others. I find they start out with Lankford, later some families just keep the spelling Langford to keep deeds and papers correct. The McQuilliams’ did the same some use McWilliams, so when researching this area you need look at both spellings. This last year I went to where Enoch and Rachael lived in Prentiss Co. Mississippi and talked to people who live there now, it’s still called Lankford Bottom and called that on their deeds. Would like information on this location.
Also I find Rachael McQuilliams, is mostly the second wife to Enoch. I have no marriage date on the first or second wife Rachael. I did find Rachael was born about 1821 or so. The census records are not real supportive but I find she is the third child of Robert McQuilliams and Jane Russ who married in 1816. Lester, Enoch oldest recorded son was born about 1829, putting Rachael really young to be the mother.
