Hello Martha,
Sorry but I have not come across any reference to Lankford in our family's research, saying that, I must admit, that when I did run into the mystery of John and Mary Jane Langford.... I quite honestly gave up for quite some time, until a trip to the Liverpool England Records office. It was there I was trying to explain to a Gentleman whose job is to help folks find their way around the records office etc.... He wasn't able to help, but a professional researcher had overheard my story, she introduced herself, and that was my turning point, within an hour she had the whole mess cleared up, with certificate (Copies) and the story all straightened out, I returned to the Records office two more days in a row, meeting her daily. I travelled back to Ontario Canada with an enormous amount of information about the Langfords. At our final departure, I asked her what her fee was for the last three days, as I had heard there is a fee, she smiled and said buy me a coffe and we will be square. I couldn't believe it. Her explaination was she felt great doing the research, usually her "jobs" are small boring ones, this one she said was going down on paper as a learning experience, for others to read. I haven't heard or seen this lady since, but thoroughly appreciated her time and diligence.
Sorry I couldn't be of any help with your Lankford/Langford question, but then I haven't gotten back past the period I mentioned which was the beginning of the last century.
Good luck with your research,
Sue
