James appears to have been quite well researched and the fathers name given as William on the death entry is only as good as the knowledge of the informant.
His occupation given as Vetinary Surgeon is the same as that in the 1900 census where he is living with second wife Rosetta Shook who he married 4 June 1891.
I have had a look at birth of James Lambies in Scotland c1836 and there isn't one with a father named William.

I have more information on the family if you need it. Please contact me through the Lambie Mailing List on Rootsweb;

http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/surname/l/lambie.ht...

James Lambie b1836 Tarbolton, Ayrshire, Scotland

I am looking for the whereabouts of James Lambie after 1881. He was born 1836 in Tarbolton, Ayrshire to John and Margaret Lambie.
In 1868, James, his wife Margaret (Davidson) and daughter Bessie come to Canada to join his mother and brothers and sisters in Scarborough Ontario. After Margaret dies between 1871-1881 , James leaves his daugther with his sister and her husband.
The Family Rumor is that he goes to Coldwater Michigan to become a farrier and horse vet. It is suspected that he is the James Lambie who dies in 1904, after marrying a Rosetta. My concern with this assumption is that the father listed on this death certificate is William and our James's father was John.
Does anyone have this James (son of William born c1837) in their family tree so that I can disprove this family rumor once and for all.
Thank you

Ancestors of Kaye LAMBIE b abt 1942 (was Mrs ASSELIN) of Midland, Ontario, Canada

My name is Sarah Gregory, and I am ashamed to say that I really don't know anything about my Lambie relations. I have been concentrating too hard on finding the Gregorys. Kaye Lambie is my grandmother, she was married to Jules Asselin, and maybe a couple other people, but returned to her maiden name. Kaye gave birth to Stephen Asselin when she was 16 and that was 42 years ago so she would be approximately 58 now. She lives in Midland, Ontario, Canada. Her sister Verna lives in California. I am not sure how many times Verna has been married, and I don't know if her last name is Lambie right now or not. I also don't know her age. I don't know anything about their parents or other siblings either. But I do know that their branch of the Lambie family comes from Scotland. If anyone has any information that could help me research my ancesters could you please respond? Thank you.

Sincerely, Sarah Gregory

I would love to share any and all information that I have. My work email is gallowayli@butte.edu. I got most of the information that I have from a bible that was brought by my husbands grandmother (Mary A. Lambie Galloway). There is one page that list the family members. Would you like a copy?

Do you have any information beyond James and Matilda Butler Lambie? birth dates, death dates, marriages etc. Do you know if they were from Scotland or Ireland? I have heard conflicting stories. Thank you Linda

Re: Loudoun Lambies (also Galston)

Have you made any progress. I'm working on the same George Lambie family. My working theory is that this George is the one who married Jean Morton 25 Feb 1730. He was of the parish of Killmarnock and she was of Loudoun parish. I've been researching on the ScotlandsPeople site and found the following children for George Lambie, smith, of Darvell:
Jean 1731
John 1732
Margaret 1737
Janet 1737
George 1741
Agnes 1743
John 1748
Margaret 1751

I think Jean (b. 1731) is my ancestor, but it's mostly based on them following the naming convention. A Jean Lambie married Hugh Smith and their second son was named George.

My guess for George's birth is: George son to John Lambie in Stonygate, christened 23 Dec. 1706 at Avondale, Lanarkshire. My best guess for Jean Morton is: Jean daughter to John Morton in Darvell born 12 June 1709.

Susan Milligan
similligan@msn.com
I have come across two little boys buried in a cemetery here. Their names are Malcolm and James. They were very young when they passed. Both were sons of Malcolm Sr and Margaret who came from Scotland originally. They had two sisters, Mary and Jennie. The family eventually moved to BC,Canada. If this sounds like your family, send me a note. An article in the Bradwell history book was written my Jessie Mycroft.

John and Jane were married in Dailly in 1802. They had 8 kids, including Janet (David Black) and John, whom I'm descended from. Daughter Agnes and her husband came to NY in 1834, then headed for the Detroit area. John, Jane and son Hugh left Scotland a couple months later and settled in Amboy, Oswego County, NY, but John had died by 1840. My John, his wife Jemima Russell and their son John (born at sea), settled in Amboy but moved to Iowa in 1853. Janet & David arrived in the area around 1859-1860 with most of their family.

Jane Lambie was born at Liffnock, Galston. In 1841, my John and his brother James were living with Jane's niece and her husband in Hurlford, Riccarton, just across Cessnock Water from Liffnock. That's where John met Jemima. They married in late 1841 and left for New York the following spring.

Watson isn't a spelling mistake. It was originally Watson in the 1700s.

But John and Jane's kids parish baptism records show Watson, Wason and Wawsson. Other records include a Wawson and Wassons. John & Jane's descendents mostly ended up with Wasson, especially in the US. The branches of the family tree that stayed in Ayrshire mostly ended up with Wason.

It's my understanding that a linguistic shift called the "West of Scotland Glottalization" may have contributed to the change.

Jannette and David were my GGG Grandparents also. He was David D. Black, his son was David Wallace Black and his son was John Black. John married Bertha May Locey circa 1895 and their daughter Zelma Annabelle was my grandmother. She had my mother out of wedlock by a fellow named Ray Thomas Fritz. John was killed by lightning circa 1905, his brother James was killed by a stump puller accident.

David Wallace married Agnes Percilla Hess in Cornwall, Stormon, Canada. They lived in Amboy, Oswego, New York and later moved on to a homestead in Lincoln Twp, Isabella, Michigan.

Re: Ancestors of Kaye LAMBIE b abt 1942 (was Mrs ASSELIN) of Midland, Ontario, Canada

Our cottage in the Midland area was next to an Asselin family that also had a home right in Midland, and coincidently, we are Lambies. There are a lot of Lambies in the Elmvale Area, about 30 minutes from Midland. I would start there. We are in Toronto, but I cannot trace our roots back all that far. My great grandfather was in Barrie for a time, which is also near Elmvale. Good luck.

Brian Lambie
