Hi Jennifer,
Since there's been no activity on this post in 5 year, I'm not sure if you are still confused! But I can add a little light to the John/Abigail connection. John was baptized 28 Apr 1734 in the Congregational Church in New Milford, son of James and Mary (Rogers) Lake. He mar 26 Jan 1761 in Kent Abigail Hoith/Hoit/Hoyt. I believe he died 23 Nov 1778 in Kent and was listed in town records as being supported by the town in 1872/3. The Lake family moved into Kent from New Milford in the late 1740s; James, the father, was a landowner several times over starting in 1750; in 1759 he sold land to an Ebenezer Hoit of Danbury; in 1765 he gave land to his "beloved son John." James makes his last sale in Kent 22 Apr 1769, and he and wife Mary disappear. At least 4 of John and Abigail's children bear family names; the John/Rhoda pair don't use any family names of this particular Lake family.
If you have access to Ancestry, take a look at them in my tree and tell me what you think.
