Richard Lahart, son of John Lahart and Mary Pollard, was born 1 November 1829 in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary, Ireland. ) Two sisters, older than Richard, came to the US before 1846 and may have settled in California. (Greg Lahart of Inverness, FL, has a letter from Vern Lahart statin Richard had a twin sister, Rose. They immigrated at New York City in 1842).
Richard Lahart was 17 years old when he arrived in the U.S. in1846. Upon his arrival, Richard made his home with relatives in Rochester, Monroe County, New York. Anxious to see the "West", he struck out and settled in Illinois where he made his home for one year. Richard then moved on into Minnesota working on the construction of the western railroad expansion before settling on a farm in Wabasha Co., MN. Richard married Bridget Granahan of Wabasha City in 1859 at St. Felix Church, Wabasha. They made their home in that city for ten years, having five sons (John, Thomas, James, Charles and ?) before moving on to Delton Twp., in Cottonwood County. There, five more children were born, David, Ellen, Mary, Louisa and Kathryn.
John (1861-1939) married Margaret CAHILL and settled in Minneapolis.
Thomas (1865-1934) married Alice KLEIN and settled in Minneapolis.
James, with his brother, Charles, were grain buyers with business in MN, ND, WY and Canada. James (1867-?) married Jewel or Julia B______, had one son, Virgil, and was living in Denver in 1934.
Charles (no evidence he was ever married) (1869-1907) was found dead in his bed in Underwood, ND. He was also a real estate agent.
David (1871-1946) married Elizabeth ______. They had one son, DeLyle, and settled in Cottonwood Co., MN on the family farm at Delton.
Ellen (1874-?) married Michael BLAHA and settled in ND. They had a daughter, Helen Marie.
Mary J. married James GAINOR and had a daughter, Dorothy. They settled in Sargent Co., MN
Louisa married Roy Emerson BENSON and had a son, Harland Lee.
Kathryn married Malachi GAINOR, Jr (brother of James Gainor, above) in 1904, where they had four children (Richard, LeRoy, Dorothy and Mary) in Sargent Co., ND.
I would love to hear from anyone who has information on this family.
Helen
