SARANAC LAKE — Helen M. LaHart, 88, formerly of Saranac Lake, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid.
She was born in Malone, N.Y., on Feb. 11, 1913, the daughter of George and Rose (Poissant) Mitchell.
Mrs. LaHart worked in Lake Placid for the 1932 Winter Olympics and moved to Saranac Lake in 1934 and worked for the New York Telephone Co. She worked in the kitchen at River Street School and Saranac Lake High School, retiring in 1975.
She was a former member of the Catholic Daughters, St. Bernard’s Altar and Rosary Society and the St. Bernard’s School Mother’s Club
She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great - grandmother.
She married Clede LaHart on Jan. 22, 1936, in St. Agnes Church in Lake Placid. He predeceased her on Nov. 30, 1981.
She is survived by three sons, Thomas LaHart and his wife, Trudy of Peru, N.Y., David LaHart and his wife, Valerie of Panacea, Fla., and John LaHart and his wife, Donna of Lake Clear, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Marcy LaHart of West Palm Beach, Fla., Linda Johnston of Morrisonville, N.Y., John Christopher LaHart of Wilmington, N.C., Thomas "Chip" LaHart of Peru, N.Y., and Laura LaHart of Windsor, Colo.; five great - grandchildren, Jaelyn Johnston, Micalli Johnston, Matthew LaHart , Joshua LaHart and Kristin LaHart; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, George Mitchell and her mother, Rose Poissant; and was the last of eleven brothers and sisters.
Private calling hours will be held at the convenience of the family. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at noon Thursday, May 2, 2002, at Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid. Burial will be at St. Agnes Cemetery in Lake Placid.
Friends wishing to remember Mrs. LaHart may make memorial contributions to Carmelite Monastery, Beacon, NY, High Peaks Hospice or Uihlein Mercy Center in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake, which is in charge of arrangements.
