My great grandfather Octave Lahaie and his wife Mary Ellen (Mamie) Johnson arrived in Hamilton in the late 1800's to Hamilton, Ontario. They came here with four other francophone families during the 1890's as trades people for the Tuckett Tobacco Company. They rolled cigars here. Tuckett would provide these families work and homes. They were recruited from Montreal.
Octave Lahaie was born in about 1860 and Mary Ellen about 1864.
They were good Catholics and had 13 children.
Mary Lahaie 1895 and later married Ben Simpson. Rose Lahaie 1886 (spouse uk) Maude Lahaie 1886 who married Edward Kilgour, Wilfred Lahaie 1887 who married (Lillian last name uk)a still born son in 1890, Albert Lahaie 1895, who married Mary Smith, John (Jack) Lahaie 1896, who married Mabel Lahaie and are my grandparents, Fred Lahaie 1898, who married Josephine Brill, Joseph Lahaie 1900, who married Leona Marie Germaine Beaudoin, Sam Lahie 1901 who married Dorthy Smith. Louis Francis Lahaie 1903, who married Evelyn Smith and Ella Lahaie 1904 who married Ernest Paul.
The folklore is that the Lahaie's came to Hamilton through Montreal via Trois Riveria.
The family tree breaks down for me at Octave.
Should there be family members out there that can fill the gap, it would be certainly appreciated.
