Heart Attack Kills Local Store Owner
Stricken with a heart attack in his delicatessen at 1099 Oliver street shortly after 7 a. m. today, Stephen Lacarewicz, 51 died soon after, despite efforts of members of the North Tonawanda Fire Department to revive him.
A physician and members of the fire department were called when the man was stricken. The firemen worked over him with the department resuscitator until the physician, Dr. Benjamin Wiech, pronounced him dead.
Lacarewicz operated sub-post office No. 2 in connection with his store for 23 years.
His sudden death came as a shock to his family and many friends.
Born in Poland, Lacarewicz had resided in North Tonawanda the past 23 years. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of Tonawandas American Legion Post No. 264. He was also a member of the Polish Alliance.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; two daughters, Helen and Marie; a son, Robert, and a brother, Michael, all of North Tonawanda.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. from the residence and at 10 a.m. from the O.L.C. church. The Rev. Michael Walek will officiate and burial will be with military ceremonies at Mt. Olivet.
