KYTLE family, Habersham County, GA
Looking for information on, or anyone with ties to, a KYTLE family from Habersham County, GA. Zachariah KYTLE, born ca. 1780, and wife Sarah JOHNSON, born ca. 1795. They had at least 10 children:
Stephen KYTLE Jacob KYTLE Lewis KYTLE, m. Meeky AYERS Claiborne KYTLE Singleton KYTLE John KYTLE Calvin KYTLE Harriet KYTLE Naomi KYTLE, m. W.R. AYERS
Most interested in how this family ties into my AYERS line. W.R. was the son of Jesse and Hannah AYERS and I believe Meeky (Melinda?) to also be their daughter. She was of the same age as an unidentified AYERS daughter enumerated on the 1840 Habersham County Census. John KYTLE was the first pastor of the Mount Pleasant Church in Habersham County and performed the marriage of my 2nd great grandparents, Jesse Putman AYERS and Sarah CAMERON in 1865. Jesse Putman was the oldest confirmed child of Jesse and Hannah although there was the aforementioned unidentified daughter and two unidentified sons that were out of the household by 1850.
I have much additional information on this family that I would be glad to share with interested parties.
Take care
David

Re: KYTLE family, Habersham County, GA
David,
A friend track my family name about as far as you have. There are several interesting folk along the way, but I don't have the data with me.
Curiously, this family line, if it is true, is disputed in some branches. I was raised thinking we were descendents of one Wilhelm Keitel, German war criminal. Name was changed when the first immigrant landed in the south somewhere. Some kin still argue that is the line, but I no longer believe this fanciful story.

Re: KYTLE family, Habersham County, GA
Jackson That sure is an intriguing story you have. I agree with you that this is probably a fanciful story. I have read postings online of people that have this line traced even further back than I have myself-- but I have no way of knowing if they're correct or not. If the Kytle/Keitel Immigrant was a German War Criminal, which war did he fight in? My history is a little rusty, but the German states fought in many wars during the 1700's. The only one that comes directly to mind, however, is the series of wars they fought again Napolean during the 1790's. I'd like to correspond further with you about this family. I've had almost no luck in finding further information. Take care David davjen128@earthlink.netPS. Please contact me directly at the above address. I only used the hotmail address while moving. I no longer check it.

Re: KYTLE family, Habersham County, GA
Just discovered another Ayers\Kytle link. Naomi Kytle, the youngest child of Zachariah Kytle and his wife Sarah Johnson, married William Russell Ayers. Naomi is a sister to Reverand John Kytle. William Russell is a son of David Ayers and his wife Lisa. They had three children, Georgia, Lucy and Robert. Now searching for information on children and spouses.

Re: KYTLE family, Habersham County, GA
Maybe I can direct you to part of their history in McMinn Co. Tenn. Check the McMinn Co. TN Census of 1870 for Naomi, her children, and her sister Harriett. (This per Kytle Family Genforum msg #11) Also see Charles Crittenden family story in the family history book, "McMinn County Tenn. and its People 1819-1997" (publ. 1997).
Harriett Kytle, sister of Naomi K. Ayers, is buried in the Horton Cemetery in McMinn Co. Born 12 Apr 1833, d. 17 Aug 1878.
My research goal for Kytle is to confirm parentage of Clerenda Kytle Ereckson, of SC and McMinn Co. TN, who may be related to Zachariah and his father Jacob Kytle. Good luck to you.

Re: KYTLE family, Habersham County, GA
Hello, There's a lot of cousins here in N and S Carolina trying to find any info on our ancestor, Sophia Keitel(Kytel) b.ABT 1800. She married John B. Barton of Greenville Co,SC. We have no info except for that. I was told by someone on the internet that she was either a daughter or a sister to Zachariah Keitel of Habersham Co. Ga. But her report was unproven. Do you have anything on Sophia Keitel? I'd appreciate hearing from you. Thanks Barbara Turner Clardy
