Hello Markus Kypta,

My husband's family name is Gypta. His grandfather was Joseph Gypta from the area around Graz, Austria. With the interchange of G and K we feel that the Kypta's are family too.

We have very dear friends near Linz, Austria, Alex and Werner Kypta. Are you familiar with their names. I will write them today. Where in Austria is your family from? I know Werner had a brother. Let me find out his name.

Thank you for your contact.

Edna Ulrich

Joseph Gypta is Great Grandfather had a child with Maria Ulrich. Back then,
The child carried the mother's maiden name if the parents
weren't married.

No, we haven't received the genealogy on the Kypta name.
Will have to contact these people again and see if we can.

Lindy, you are more than welcome. Harold was my uncle and I think you were still a baby when he died in 1980. Otto's father was Franz Kypta and he was born in Netvorice, Czech Republic (then referred to in German as Bohmen or Bohemia in English). I have Otto's birth certificate and some old photos of him from World War I and after that, as well as some photos of your grandfather. I think I saw on one of these messages that you were working at Lithia Springs Library; I teach at Douglas County High School. If you are interested, I can let you look at/ try to scan or copy any of these pictures or documents. My e-mail is
kypta-69@msn.com.

Yes, Otto Frank Kypta is in my line. Going backwards, my father was Terry Kypta, his father was Harold Frank Kypta, and his father was Otto Frank Kypta. That was as far as I had gotten in my research. Thanks for the info!

May have some information on a Frank (Franz) Kypta who was my great grandfather. My grandfather, Otto Franz Kypta (but he went by Frank) was born in Austria in 1896. He did have brothers and sisters but I do not know their names but the time frame (1896/ 1902) is close. However, to be descended from ths line of the Kyptas, Joseph would have had to have been born either in Austria or New Jersey and then moved to Pittsburg sometime later.

Thanks for the information. Most of the Kyptas in Georgia are descended from Otto Franz Kypta who was born in Vienna in 1896. His parents were both from what is currently the Czech Republic. Some of the Kyptas in the Czech Republic emigrated to Switzerland during the Soviet occupation and are still in Switzerland today.

My husband's family name is Gypta. We feel that Gypta or
Kypta are german variations of each other. We have very special friends in Austria, that are Kypta's. There are only 7 Kypta's in all of Austria. There are many spellings of Kypta
and Gypta, ....Kipta, Gipta, Czypta, etc. There origination of
these names is unknown to us. But our friends in Austria do
have a history of Kypta in their possession. When we go to
Austria next year, we will see if we can get a copy.

If you have any questions let me know. My husband's
Gypta, was Joseph.

Edna

Her father was Frank Kypta, who had a brother Joseph; a brother William; and, a sister Helen. He married Emma Szoboda. They had the following children:Helen, Frank, Alice, and Donald.

They divorced late 1920's or early 30's.

I found a 1910 census that shows a Frank Kypta married to a Barbara(both from Austria) with a son Frank born in 1893 and a son Joseph born in 1903.

Hope to compare notes.

Martin Kimmel

Yes, I believe you could be. Another note, there are only
6 Kypta's currently in Austria. We have met 5 of them this
year in April. They are lovely people. Do you know where
in Austria your family originated? Our spelling is Gypta/
Gipta. But in old German it is my understanding that G and
K were interchangeable. The Kypta family we know live near
Linz, Austria. There is another in Vienna and plan to contact that person when we visit next. Our family originated near Graz, Austria around 1822 or that's as far
back as we have been able to trace the family.

Please keep in touch. You have a very interesting email
address. After the holidays we can sit down and compare
notes.

Sincerely,

Edna Ulrich

After reading your messages, I think that I could possibly be related to someone you described. Franz Kypta was my great-great grandfather. I do not know much because I am the end of the line, but my father told me he came over from Austria before the borders were closed in WWI I believe. He lived in New York for a while. His son was my dad's father. All of them are now deceased, so I do not know much. I am from a suburb of Atlanta, Ga and have lived here all my life. Do you think that there could be any connection? I have been trying to research my family history for quite some time. Any help would be great!

Hello Edna,
Thanks for the information. However I really doubt that I would be related to any of those that you mentioned. There is a chance, I am sure....... that they may be "Distant" relatives.
I really wish I had something to go on! I just don't know much at all, when it comes to the
"Kypta" ancestors. Please continue to inform me though. Something you tell me, might "Click!"
I am from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Lived here all my life, where are you from? I will await your response.
Ron Kypta

Hi Ron,

Thank you for your reply. My husband's uncle, Joseph
Gypta was born in 1880 in Graz, Austria. His grandfather,
Franz was born 1875 in Graz, Austria. We have record of
Joseph Gypta, father of both Franz and Joseph back to 1855
and his father, Joseph back to 1822 in Graz. We don't know
where he came from before that. When they came to the U.S.,
the settled in Chicago, but spent some time in Cincinnati and Joseph, in the Minnesota area. We have made friends with Werner and Gerde Kypta in Linz, Austria. There are only 6 Kypta's listed in the directory in Austria. We have
also made the aquintance of Jan Kypta in Prague, CZ where
he has said there is a Kypta Square named after a teacher
there. Also, if you go to familysearch.org, the mormon
church web site, you will find Kypta, under the Country of
CZ, there are a couple of Kypta's from the mid 1800's. Also, if you go to www.google.com and put in the name Kypta,
you will come up with several. The name is also spelled
Kipta.

You do not indicate what part of the country you are from.
Please let me know.

Thanks,

Edna Ulrich

Hi Edna,
Thank you for responding to my message. I don't know too much.... Just that my grandfather came from Czech, or around that area somewhere. My father was Joseph Kypta, who might possibly be your husbands uncle. Joseph (My Father) If living today would be (95) years old. Would that be around the age, of the uncle?
My Dad, was a "Paint Mixologist" by trade, and a painter. People would come from all over to have him mix paints. He drowned in 1948 at the age of (42) I know he had some sisters, for sure. I believe their names were: Mary, Helen and Agnes. I am not sure if my father had any brothers. I was (2) years old when he died.
If any of this sounds like someone or somthing, might be related, please let me know. I am really at a loss.....when it comes to the history of the "Kypta's"
Thank's,
Ron

Hello Ron,

One of my husband's family names is Gypta. Since in German,
the K and G can be interchanged, we are looking for both.
There are several spellings.

Since the Kypta/Gypta name is relatively rare, we are looking at both spellings. We have made contact with a
lovely couple in Linz, Austria named Werner and Gerde Kypta.
My husband's family was from Austria. When they came to
the States, they settled for a short time in Ohio.

Joseph Gypta was my husband's uncle. They settled in
Illinois.

Would be glad to hear from you.

Sincerely,

Edna M. Ulrich
