I am looking for informaiton on my 3rd great grandfather William Sanders Kynoch. I believe he was born in Scotland in the early 1800's. His wife was Margaret Anna Mc Farlane - they were married in Boston, Mass around the year 1846 - then they resided in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Sometime after he left Scotland his name changed to William Kandick and this is the name his children took. I do not know if the change took place in the US or in Canada. They had 3 daughter and on son- Elizabeth, Isabella, Margaret and I do not know the name of the son. Isabella is my 2nd great grandmother - she married into the Greenfield Family. William may have been in politics after he came to Canada. I am trying to make the link back to Scotland on this line. Any info on the Kynoch family history would be welcomed.

Thanks, Michelle

Hey Michelle,
Margaret Kandick was my great-great grandmother. William was her father. I have Mrs William Kandick's family bible here in my house, but there is not a lot of info in it. I have an entire album of Kandick pictures. They lived on 6 Victoria (Road I think) in Halifax. (But after the explosion in 1917,the numbering system was changed.)Elizabeth (a sister) was known as Bessie and was married to William F McCurdy.(The McCurdy's later flew the first flight in Canada)I have lots of info on Margaret, she was married to Albert Edward (A.E.)McPherson who started the Island Reporter newspaper in Baddeck. THere is more, but let me know what info you want. I can probably scan pics for you and look up more Kandick info. Let me know if you are interested in more.

Hi,

I am so excited to know a Kandick cousin! Your GGGrandmother Margaret was my GGGranmother Isabella's sister. I would be very interested in any information you have on the Kandicks. We know very little about them. I only have a few pictures of Isabella when she was young. I have more from after she moved to California with her husband and children. I only information I have is from the census records and vital records from Nova Scotia that I have been able to find.

Do you know any of the history of the last name being changed from Kynoch to Kandick when William immigrated to Canada from Scotland? I think my Aunt has some pictures of some Kandick cousins by the name of McKie but I am not sure how the are connected for sure.

My private email is pertybear at gmail.com - you can contact me directly and we can share more.

-Michelle

Hi Michelle, just making sure you got the pictures? I was wondering do you know where the dark hair and eyes come from? Was it William or his wife?

Hi Angela, Yes I did get the photos - thank you! I have been in the middle of trying to sell my house and purchase a new one and so my geneology research got put on the shelf for just a bit. My sister and I looked over the photos right after you sent them. My sister is an expert in historical clothing from the 1800's and she was able to date the photos so we know around what time they were taken. This may be helpful in identifying the unknown people. I do have some photos of Isabella Kandick as well as a couple of her sisters too. I know I have one of William Kandick but he is quite old in it with white hair. I will have to wait until we get moved and get things unpacked to get to them though. All my photos are in storage right now. We have found the home we want, now we just have to get our current home sold. Once I get things in the new house, I will scan the photos and send them to you, so we can compare them with the photos you have. - Take Care - Michelle

Hi

I was just looking into my William Kynoch when I saw your post.
I know my William didn't change his name to Kandick but here goes if you can help with my search.

The date you gave for his birth coincides with mine, my William was born in Dunottar, Kincardineshire, had two marriages, first to Ann Massie producing Ann, James, Isabella Agnes, and on 1841 census, also a William Morrison. I think William Morrison was a nephew, not their child.
William Kynoch went on to remarry after Ann's death and had Robert, John, Jane, Alexander and Henry. Henry was my immediate relative. Robert Morrison lived with them, noted as nephew. I'm now looking backwards to see who were the parents of William, born Dunottar, 1791or 1801!
Have you any information on Williams past?
