I am looking for information on my great grandfather Patrick Kyne. He was born Jan 6 1839 in Headford, County Galway, Ireland. He was married to Bridget (Townsend??). They had four children: Mary, Johanna, Margaret and John. I believe Mary was born in Ireland before they emmigrated to the US in 1860's. Any help would be appreciated..

My wifes maiden name is Kyne and she is also looking for information on when or how the last name changed. Her grandfather's name was William Edward Kyne. Her Great GF was also William Edward Kyne and he married Mary Fair. Supposedely the family moved to PA from Maryland and origionally came from Galway, Ireland. She does not have much information. Do you have any info that could help? Thanks

I just happened upon your message and am interested. I am a Kyne whose family came from Clonbur, County Galway, Ireland. I have been putting together my family tree for years, but have never heard of a William Kyne. I do have some information about the name Fair though. In Clonbur graveyard, there is a non-Catholic section with impressive memorial stones for members of the Hamilton and Fair families. Bridget Hamilton married my great-grandfather, Patrick Kyne in Clonbur. I am not certain but I think the Fairs were related to Bridget Hamilton. I haven't found the connection yet. At any rate, they share a section in the graveyard which seems to indicate that there is a connection. I would like to hear more about William Kyne and Mary Fair.

My grandfather is said to have migrated from County Mayo, probably Cong, to Brooklyn, N,Y. in the late 1880's. He married Catherine Casey from Partry, Mayo in about 1890. He was born about 1867. He died in Kings Park, Long Island in about 1938 and is buried in Brooklyn. Does this ring any bells?

My Coynes are from Coldpark, Co. Galway just a short distance from Cong. I tried to see about the name Casey as a check but could not find her.

I'm not sure if this thread is still active, but I'll give it a try. I have since found out my Great grandfather was not William Kyne as I had been told, but Thomas Kyne. I have discovered he married Mary Fair and they lived in Cumberland, MD in 1910. They had 10 children and moved to McKeesport, PA some time before 1920. Mary's father is Thomas Fair of Cumberland (born in Scotland). Her mother is Catherine born in MD. I am trying to find where Thomas Kyne was born (somewhere in PA) and who his parents were. (I know they were born in Ireland-FATHER and England- MOTHER. If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it.

This may be a coincidence, but there is a connection in the village in Ireland where my KYNE ancestors originated (Clonbur) with a family called FAIR. Although I had always thought the connection was through Brigid Hamilton (my great grandmother) who married Patrick Kyne (my great grandfather), I now believe that perhaps the connection existed before this time. It just seems too much of a coincidence that a Thomas Kyne in Cumberland, MD should have married a Mary Fair whose father was born in Scotland. You see, Brigid Hamilton's family had moved to the South of Ireland from the North and had originally come from Scotland. To this day, in the Catholic graveyard in Clonbur, there is a small section still enclosed by walls of what seems to have once been a church in which massive tombstones from two prominent Protestant families are to be found, the Hamiltons and the Fairs. At least two of these had been erected by Brigid to commemorate her sisters, Lizzie and ?, and her brother, Michael's deaths. But that's not all; to my understanding, the Fairs lived beside the Hamilton's residence and business in Clonbur in a property that my grandfather was to inherit upon his marriage to Josephine Joyce many years later. I had always been told that this inheritance came from his parents (Brigid (nee Hamilton) & Patrick Kyne), so I assumed that the Hamilton property had been brought into the marriage between Patrick Kyne and Brigid Hamilton, a union between a business woman and a wealthy farmer. However, I discovered that when Patrick registered each of his children after birth, he recorded his profession as that of a farmer and his address as Gortnarup, which is adjacent to Clonbur. Although this baffled me at the time, I could rationalize it as follows: she continued to run the business when not giving birth to her numerous children, while he was still a very successful farmer. However, I could not forget that I had always heard that he had been what was then described as a "merchant" who had enough business acumen to expand his property and business before leaving it finally to his youngest child, which, incidentally, turned out to be a not-so-good decision. Thomas had no head for business, only for the good life, and so had more or less run it to the ground by the time he died at the age of 59. Afterwards, his wife (my grandmother) could not sell it quick enough and absconded to Dublin, wanting to get as far away as possible from the scene of so much unhappiness (I assume). Suffice it to say: theirs was not a happy union.
This may be a lot more than you hoped to hear, but as you can imagine, I have a great interest in piecing together my family history, and I feel that if I knew more about the FAIR-HAMILTON-KYNE connection, I would be a lot wiser. I do believe this is the missing link.

Hello - I realize this thread is quite old and perhaps no longer active, but I'll add my two cents. My grandparents were born in Galway: John Kyne (March 20, 1893 to November 23, 1965) and Kathleen Hanley, 1890 to Jan. 29, 1965. Interesting that two of their children are John and Margaret. I believe my great grandfather was Peter Kyne of Galway, born approx. 1845. My grandparents sailed from Liverpool on the Aquitania and arrived in New York on January 30, 1921.

Would love to figure out if we have a connection.
